Re: Pollen. There's lots of it about.
My father used to tell this story:- To earn money when he was young (14) he used to collect blackberries and sell them to the old folks in the village. One day there was a film at the cinema he wanted to see (Dracula or Frankenstein, I forget which). He had collected a full bowl that he was sure wou...

I have never had a problem with dirty cover glasses even ones that I have used. Soap water and kitchen towel to dry works for me.

Hi MicaelG.
If you are looking for narrow beam LED's you can get them down to 15 degrees from Conrad.

Must be nice to have access to a scanning electron microscope. You don't say if the SEM is at work or in your back room. Very nice image, I think the flakes are probably pollen kit (maybe coated in gold).

Use a file instead of a cutting tool, much less torque.

Re: battery adapter
Hans. I give up. It sounds as though you are suggesting that I can get a lethal shock from getting out of my car and touching the metal of the door. :x I never suggested that 75RR goes around his house touching all his electrical items to see if he gets a shock, I was simply suggesting that he may g...

Re: battery adapter
I said from other items, NOT the camera. Again you cannot get a shock from a 5V USB cable, and you can not put 240 volts through a USB cable without melting it and blowing up the camera.

A T4 torx wrench is .053 inches across the points so all you need is a T4 torx screw.

Re: battery adapter
Hi 75RR. Interesting reading. In the summer (like now) I always get a static shock when getting out of my car, not so in the winter. I will have to try touching the window before the door. :D Edit: Nylon is one of the worst offenders for causing static electricity shocks. The old trick of rubbing yo...

I don't see how a 5volt USB adapter can give you a shock unless you stick your fingers in the socket that you have the USB adapter plugged into.

An update on the foxglove growing in our back garden. When I did the first post it was 153 cm tall. It is now 184cm and still has half the flower stack to blume.

Re: battery adapter
Hi 75RR, Static electricity. Dry air, nylon carpet, plastic shoes. Your camera with the adapter attached could only supply a maximum of 5v x 500ma not enough to even give you a tingle. Try putting your wet tongue over the contacts of a 9v battery you will see what I mean, tastes yuck but no harm don...

Re: About camera on a microscope
Hi Don, you should watch Olivers channel on microscopy. It's not possible to see any more detail with a so called magnification above 1000x because of the properties of light. Anything above 1000 is empty magnification, in other words there is no more detail to see.

Re: Rocks, Minerals and Fossils
Hi 75RR I have looked at holders but couldn't find anything at the moment, will need more thinking about especially as the eyepiece head moves up and down when focusing. The biggest problem with the focus is the small screen on the camera. There is also an HDIM out on the camera but I have not tried...

Rocks, Minerals and Fossils

Here is my first attempt based on how I displayed the pollen series of posts. The main image is a closeup of the mineral with a scale bar added. The scale bar s...

We are thinking about a trip to Denmark in late August (fossils again). Hoping that all is better by then. Hi Bob, you can't have everything, we went for fossils (and minerals of course) and only found tiny plant remains. Good job we had the scope with us as you needed it to see them.

Hi Bob,
We just got back from the Harz and we took our stereo microscope with us 'no slides required', along with a hammer.
Weather was wonderful and the rocks outstanding.
