Hi Bill & Steve - thanks for your encouragement! :) I feel like a very lucky man this morning! Can't wait to use this beauty in anger, must get some slides subbed today and dig out some wax-blocked specimens that I haven't been able to section up until now! Should soon have some results to share of ...

Ah Seb - it's a beauty! I love your gear, that 'scope looks beautiful. I suppose, with hindsight there's an almost irresistible progression from hand-microtome to rocking microtome to rotary microtome! I've been unbelievably fortunate in coming across this machine - I still can't believe it! Sooo - ...

My use of fuzzy images is do my uncertainty of how to go to my images: 1) copy the image...than insure I am resizing that copy...and not altering the original image. I'm not sure I have it down on how to : make a copy from the given image file...then alter only that copy...then send as upload only ...

My New Microtome

Hi all, just taken delivery of this beautiful microtome, one of 2 ex-University machines bought for a course that they never ran in the end, that as far as I know was never used! It takes replaceable blades (even came with 10 unused blades!) and is an absolute beauty - also cost me a third of the am...

Excellent images, the last one is particularly interesting, it suggests (being polarized) structural information of the 'joins' between cells - very interesting to closely examine this region...
Thanks for a super post - It's making me consider fitting a polarizer to my 'scope... :)

Re: µ peanuts?

Very interesting find, could they have originated from contact with something with the slide such as the handle of an implement etc, hence the 'squareness' of their distribution. I suspect the shape, given that it's a square, may be an artifact if some kind. Perhaps from contact, maybe from a cleani...

Because this image was taken by adjusting focus on the laptop screen rather, which was a bit difficult and probably...

Re: Grass innards

How do you put the scale in the images? Very effective. Also very precise. Hi Jim, it's pretty easy - you will need to buy a 'stage-micrometer slide' - sounds posh but it's just a slide that has a presumably very accurate series of 'scales' either printed or etched onto it's surface - I'm not sure ...

That's the optic I use between my 2mp Toupcam & 'scope - it allows the camera's-image to be focused independently (of the 'scopes focus) and with this I'm able to achieve parfocality between 'scope and camera - not essential but very useful. Also it allows the FOV to be changed (within reason), effe...
