Re: New to microscopy microscope buying help.

The camera probably isn't very good. I would get the microscope without the camera and then shop for a different camera to add if you want to view images on a monitor.

Re: A microscope for digital image capturing?

For usb microscope cameras the eyepiece is usually removed and the usb camera is inserted into the empty eyepiece slot, this will not require using a higher magnification objective. Cameras usually have their own zoom factor of some sort. I forget the terminology but the usual 4x 10x 40x objectives ...

Re: Family Stereo Microscope from Santa

As far as a DSLR camera goes, I just don't know that it will perform the function I need it for now? Basically I just want the image to be on a big screen so the kids can see it and we can point at things and talk about what we see. I don't see the preview screen on DSLRs being big enough for that....

Re: Family Stereo Microscope from Santa

With a $1000 budget you could get a $200 to $500 microscope and spend the rest on a dslr camera which would be much better than one of those usb cameras. Maybe you already have a dslr camera? The trinocular could be worth it if you want to broadcast the image onto a computer or tv screen. You could ...

Re: Hello, Farmer here! Compost/Soil Analysis - Beginner

Those microscope cameras are arguably ok if you get a really cheap one to save money but generally those expensive usb cameras are not worth the price. If you are willing to spend $400 you would be better off buying a dslr and getting an adapter to attach it to the microscope. Also I guarantee that ...

Re: What strength microscope to see spirochetes, parasites, white blood cells, etc.

A microscope with a 40x objective and a 10x eyepiece totaling 400x is enough to see bacteria but the quality of the objective starts to matter when observing bacteria. With my cheap $300 microscope I can generally see bacteria but not in great detail and some bacteria isn't even visible. But with my...

Re: Matching camera with C-mount

I think a c mount is generally used with a dslr so if you get one of those usb cameras you won't actually need the c mount. The distance from the camera to the image produced by the microscope is a factor and has to be placed with the correct distance to be in focus.

@micro, judging by the shape of the cell and the relative length of its trichocysts, your critter might be a smaller cousin, Frontonia acuminata. If there is a video, I'd be glad to have a look at it.

Re: What I can see.

40x is by default harder to get clear images of. Bigger specimens will look more detailed and in focus than small stuff. The amount of water on the slide also matters and a cover glass can make the image better or sometimes worse. a 40x objective also can require a brighter bulb sometimes but you do...

Not to beat a subject to death, but that is an amazing and inspiring video. Wow. Um, did you say the camera costs $1500, though? Not that it is the camera making such a great video, I know it's the director, right? Or the actors? ANyway bravo. The microscope motic ba310 is $1500. The camera they us...

I think I filmed one of these too. Did you use oblique? Your image is more bright vibrant and detailed than mine but the cilia in my picture are more visible for some reason. I think I used the 20x objective where it looks like you used a 40x.

This is a compilation of videos from my swift 380t. I had issues with the adapter which is why the footage is somewhat blurry. The organisms were easy to find. I just put pond water in a jar and take samples from it. So yes a microscope is very worth it and will supply endless observations of micro...

Re: First microscope options

Need more information for what you want to look at. Buying used is recommended. Cordless doesn't matter. With a binocular you can add a camera mount that can be inserted into the eyepiece tube. A trinocular makes it easier to attach a camera. If you want to use a dslr vs a little usb camera a trinoc...

Re: Really cheap camera, any opinion?

I don't think the usb cameras are ever worth the money. Smartphone camera pictures will work better anyway. Makes more sense to just put the $50 towards a dslr. The problem with phone cameras is having to align and re-align them on the eyepiece tube adapter (itself often problematic, at least those...

Looks good. You will only be able to get a portion of the wing in focus at a time as its depth of field is smaller than the relief of the subject That's probably the problem. If you're trying to focus on an unmounted specimen that is not absolutely flat you're going to have to search around a littl...
