Re: Microscopy with Nikon D810

Connecting full frame DSLR to a microscope is easy, as before the digital age 35mm was the smallest size film media which would be use for photomicrography. Most older photo tubes and ocular so are designed for 35mm film or 4x5" sheet film. The resolution is another matter. The higher the resolution...

Do you have an image or catalogue number for that?

Yes, I can look at the part number on the base.

Re: Exorcising a Vibration Demon

I notice vibrations at high magnifications if I don't use mirror lockup. My photo setup, which is Canon DSLR connected to Universal through upper port is quite steady. Enough so that I do not need to use air table (I have one). I did attach furniture felt feet to the base of the Universal, mainly so...

Re: Zeiss Universal's new home

Well, the actual amount I paid for this is zero. I inherited some prototypes when I took over the department, and since some of the prototypes went few years back and no one knew what they were, they were discarded. I took several interesting contraptions for myself, as they were heading for the tra...

Re: Zeiss Universal's new home

When I just got this device, I experimented quite a bit with it, as my idea was to obtain a second one, disassemble it and insert the second FO cable on the other side after drilling and shampfering a hole. The project never came to fruition since I was just too busy. The way the sample is illuminat...

Stopped down by objective iris.
Interestingly enough, I would not qualify this illuminator as transmitted light. It is more similar in its principe to incident light, as the sample is illuminated from the side and is positioned against opaque background.

Re: Zeiss Universal's new home

I did not mill the fixture myself, but it is of a very simple design. I can probably manufacture something very similar using a tabletop CNC milling machine. Basically it is an aluminum block with a pocket milled into it to slightly loosely fit standard slide. There is a gasket (not visible on the p...

Stiff stage controls

Disassembling semi-flexible drive shaft for Zeiss inverted microscope stage is a challenge due to plastic joint inside. Lubricating with high lubricity thin oil did not help, neither did a bath in WD40 ( I took the shaft off the stage of course, it is held by two screws). Applying neutral pH petrole...

Re: Nikon DS-5M microscope camera for sale. Old crap or a good start?

As far as resolution goes, 5MP is plenty, but as you said, the driver could be a problem, no service, and at $500 you can buy modern generic camera based on Sony CCD, which will probably get you better imagery anyways. In addition to MP, these old chips don't have allot of dynamic range, which has b...

ICM-405/IM35 question

I have come to a possession of Zeiss ICM-405/IM-35 stand. I am currently trying to get it operational to the level of my Universal. The stand came with no objectives, but with both illumination systems and 0.6 OA condenser. I need to add specimen holder to the stage, phase condenser and objectives. ...

Re: Looking for condenser for Zeiss IM 35/ICM 405 inverted scope.

As far as LWD objectives go, I use standard planapo objectives at work on the inverted scopes, except for the ones I use in tissue culture room, including OI objectives. Is it different for these older 160mm tube optics?

The transmitted condenser is a low 6.3 NA condenser. Here is a fully loaded Zeiss ICM 405 with transmitted 6.3 NA DIC mounted circled in Red and the BF/DF or Fluoro Epi condenser circled in Blue. You will also need LWD objectives. ICM 405 Left.jpg How complete is the IM/ICM you are getting? Thank y...

Re: Looking for condenser for Zeiss IM 35/ICM 405 inverted scope.

I recall seing what appeared to be standard substage phase condenser mounted on inverted scope ones. I suppose you can take the top lens off and bring the condenser as close as possible to the object.
Well, looks like i will have another project going..... :)

Re: Looking for condenser for Zeiss IM 35/ICM 405 inverted scope.

The upper transmitted condenser. Phase or DIC, depending on the condition and price. I might end up inheriting IM-35 (or ICM 405, I'm not even sure, as I only saw it for a second) body, so I will start putting together a working scope. I' have never dealt with pre-Axiovert inverted scopes, such as I...

There is a company that made fiber optic attachment to slide for darkfield and they claim usable darkfield up to 100x objective. Re: Zeiss Universal's new home

Yes, in fact I do have OI-1 dark field condenser for LOMO! I think you meant OI-13 (oil DF) condenser? Do you have an iris objective and/or funnel stops? I am only aware of a funnel stop for LOMO 90/1.25, 60/0.7-1.0 oil riris objective, 50/0.7-1.0 and 30/0.6-0.9 water iris objective. Yes. Exactly O...
