Wow, excellent image! Amazing detail! I might have missed a previous post where this information is available but what scope/objectives are you using? Your DIC images are very impressive!

Great collection of images! I love the idea of capturing an event over a series of individual images.

Found these guys floating around while slide surfing lastnight. Both images are from the AO20, oblique illumination with planapo 40x . 80 / adv planachro 100x . 1.25 I was short on time so i didn't oil the condenser or 100x objective. No doubt it would have improved image quality. I'm in the process...

Re: Parfocal diatom test
Rodney - You bring up a very good point. There is little room for error when using fast drying super glues. You have to be spot on and confident you have everything lined up and in the right position before you commit to placing the glue down. Thanks for the suggestion of a slower drying adhesive! C...

Re: Parfocal diatom test
Rodney - Great minds think alike eh!! I had considered doing the same thing for the eyepieces but with the trinoc head i figure'd why loose an eyepiece to imaging. Great stuff though! ...To allow for the possible slight differences in the thickness of the various t mounts out there, what is the dist...

Re: Parfocal diatom test
Unless you're pretty familiar with adhesives, I'm wondering how good a choice "super glue" is for the T-mount to PVC join. I'm thinking a fillet of JB Weld would put that baby to bed for all eternity. Also thinking it's like $1K sitting up top. But then, I know not what "industrial strength super g...

Re: Parfocal diatom test
...So the connection to the camera is a slip fit into a T-mount? Ah, I should have specified! My bad! The grey tube is just slightly larger than the opening on the t-mount for the EOS adapter....Industrial strength super glue was my friend during this setup. I have a few of those t-mounts lying aro...

Thank you all for the kind comments! It's nice when everything falls into place for once and you get a smooth imaging session! JimT - I was going to paint the inside black yes! Parfocal diatom test
Following some advice over on the "camera vs eyepiece" discussion i've managed to finally get my camera/eyepieces parfocal and almost the same FOV. I think the image quality i'm getting via my camera has improved because of this. I have to crop a small amount but overall i'm happy with the results. ...

Great images Kurt! I especially like the 3rd one! Awesome detail! Is this just good old fashion sand from any regular beach that you are interested in? If that's the case I can scoot on down my local lake and collect some samples for you. Maybe you'll find something exotic from up here in the great ...

I tend to dislike B&W images... I knew you had a flaw!!! Ansel Adams got me hooked on B&W photography 15(ish) years ago and i've never looked back. There's something very striking about monochrome images! I remember reading something back in college about how monochrome images are processed differe...

Charles - My scope is an AO20 and camera is the Canon T3i. Right now I'm using an AO phototube which slides into the Trinoc head. It has an adjustable lens inside the tube housing ranging from 2.8x to 5x and a 67mm extension tube (removable) which the camera attaches to. With the phototube fully ass...

AO20, 40x .80 Planapo, Oblique Illumination, 3 panel composite...each panel is a 5 image stack, Stacked in PS. Panel blending and stacking got a bit wobbly in some places but it's getting late and i'll end up making a bigger mess if i start playing around with it!
Thanks for viewing!

zzffnn - It could very well be that the filter was not entirely parallel. This is all experimentation right now it's something I'll look at. I'll try regular goodboldfashion brightfield and see if the coma is still there. From what I remember it is but I'll double check. I'm also playing around with...

Re: Quick test. Van Egmond
Oh neat! I like what you've done with the pvc pipes! You could try making the pipes longer so that the filter is right below your stage and then try different size black spots for the dark field. That might give better results for the higher objectives.

Thanks Rod. The 40x is proving to be difficult. I'm printing another sheet tomorrow which has a nice variety of options so hopefully one of those will work with the higher objectives!
