Re: Just bought Leitz objective...
John, I stand to be corrected, but I am sure that 'built-in iris diaphragm' is not the same thing as 'correction collar' ... I think you will find that the diaphragm serves exactly the same purpose as the one in a camera lens. I have never seen a low power objective that needed a correction collar. ...

Re: Black ant from LOMO 10X APO
Thank you ... that clarifies nicely. The main reason that I asked was because I could see no reference to an eyepiece. >> It is now clear that you did not use one ... I also did not use the eyepiece in the home made camera mount tube. ... which makes the performance of the objective all the more imp...

Re: One last rotifer video
And there is also some light on the question left from the previous thread . It is not evident while the rotifer is contracted, but at 2:20 the one shows a round bubble at the cloaca, which then abruptly contracts and disappears. Thanks for that observation ... Your analysis makes good sense. Micha...

Avery, Please let me be the first to welcome you to the forum ... I'm quite new here, myself. I have a grey 'Photomicro Adapter L' available, if you can't find a beige one. I was intending to put it on ebay, but, if you are interested, please send me a message, and we can discuss. Best Wishes Michae...

Re: A herd of rotifers!
Revised version: As I hope I made clear; [in common with most of mankind] I know very little about the rotifers . However: If [as seems very likely] the object is not a testis, then it does surprise me that it is so clearly visible in just two of the individuals. Is this just an optical anomaly? ......

If I am understanding this correctly: You appear to have some Male specimens in your herd These rotifers are bdelloids. They don't have any males at any point – < etc. > . I defer to your wisdom ... and would do so unconditionally if I had not seen the claim in Richard Dawkins' book "The Ancestor's...

Re: A herd of rotifers!
Hey -- I've got a question concerning rotifer physiology. I noticed a couple of the rotifers in the "herd" photo have a round thingy of some sort in the second or third posterior segment. Does anyone know what that is? Thanks! . Pat, What I know about rotifers could be writ large on a postage stamp...

Re: LOMO compensating optics
I thought it was odd that the 40x was not marked for cover glass thickness like the 60x is (see photos earlier in thread). Since it is not marked NC I figured that it is "understood" that the glass is needed. Of course I had to try it without the cover glass, and got the typical distorted image one...

Re: LOMO compensating optics
... Could it be that one of the objectives is giving a little less magnification, thus a larger perceived FOV? I didn't think of that until this morning. . Bear in mind that 160mm is a mechanical tube length, and therefore [depending on the optical designer's preference] the intended primary image ...

Re: A new (?) home-made mounting medium for diatoms
This glass glue may work better than nail polish as sealant: https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Basic-Crafts/Glues-Adhesives/Glass-Bond/p/28110 Or it may even be used as mounting medium. It dries quickly by itself to a glass like clarity ... . That looks a useful material, at a very good pri...

Re: Wide field of view
As promised : My Nachet stereo-zoom has 10x eyepieces The tubes are only 27mm diameter, which must restrict the field somewhat. Some numerical indication of what you consider to be a 'fantastically wide' and/or 'disappointingly narrow' field of view would be helpful.
