Re: All LED lineup

Scroll down this one as well for a much better image of the 4 black microscopes from the booklet above - one can drag it on to the desktop http://www.mikroskopie-forum.de/index.php?topic=24046.15 Very interesting! Thank you Sir. The question is, how many of these were made? Also, I looked at my "st...

Having said that, if I ever find the black one, I will post the pictures. Scroll down ... http://www.mikroskopie-forum.de/index.php?topic=13573.30 That's a beautiful unit! Re: opinion on this scope please

Getting a good quality used unit from th Reputable manufacturer is pretty easy. Just keep it simple for the first unit. There is , for exampe a completely recondicioned Universal on eBay right now (with planapo 63 and planapo 100, no delamination) from 100% feedback microscope dealer for $900 shipped.

Re: All LED lineup

So my conclusion is that either they only made prototypes which is what was photographed, or they did make a small production run, and these early scopes are all broken, rusted , melted or otherwise wiped out without their stands ever hitting secondary market. I might be wrong, and there is a room ...

Re: All LED lineup

I think it must have been a picture of a prototype. I did a sobarical in Gottingen in the late 90s' and the place was brimming with old Zeiss microscope of every possible model and configuration. They had a microscopy lab with at least 10 Ultraphots sitting on the benches. Bunch of hammertone-gray P...

Re: All LED lineup

I've read these documents. They are interesting, but actually omit the actual generations of Standards and Universals. For the most part the differences are insignificant and mainly vidmetic, but for the collector they are interesting.

Re: All LED lineup

WLs have the exact same focusing block as Universal, Photomic and Ultraphot. They also have the fixture fot attaching external lamphouses for large stands (apparently some 18s do too). WL was (I believe) the first variation of Standard, followed by the more compact line. I have seen very old WLs fro...

No, they actually do not.

Your scope is 100% Standard 18. Charles was right from the very begining.

Re: All LED lineup

Standard WL is arguably the most versatile stand Zeiss ever made. It can do just about everything Universal can do with much more compact size. It was very popular with academic research labs and a favorit to have on professor's desk. Those things are still seen everywhere in European universities w...

That's a nice collection Oktagon! Thanks. These are my main working scopes. The reason why there are two heads on Universal is not because I have 4 eyes, but so that my kid can look through at the same time and I can explain what we are looking at. This universal was practially brand new when I got...

Welcome! I have been using microscopes as a hobbyist as well as professionally for over 20 years and have myself discovered this forum only recently. It is an excellent resource and is regularly attended by some very knowledgeable microscopists.

Re: All LED lineup

I agree. It has to be Standard 18. I can't tell right away by the base. The easiest way is to look whether stage and condenser carrier are removable, but I just looked at the base of WL and it is longer and has "teeth".

Oktagon, I'm slowly getting this Diaphot TMD set-up the way I want it. . That's a great setup you've got. I purchased both stands I use mostly in their basic state and have been adding components. I too love the camera position in ICM-405. Very well thought-through. When I mount camera on the Unive...

Re: Leitz Dialux Pol

Thank you! I like the 'Black' era in all the scope manufacturers scopes. A lot of good looking microscopes came out during that time period. Zeiss did have the Junior, GFL and WL in black during that time period and I think all the manufacturers moved to grey scopes about the same time. There are t...

Re: opinion on this scope please

Completely agree with Apochromat. This is a typical $200 chinese microscope with lots of marketing BS and some no-so-needed accessories. ....and there is no such thing as 2000x magnification in visible light transmitted microscopy. Maximum resolving magnification sits somewhere around 1300-1400x, an...

Although I do use DSLR on my scopes, I do it mostly for the convenience and not having to recalculate magnification when full sensor camera is used with correct 35mm photo attachment. Now, ...

Very nice scope, Charles! Black Leitz scopes are classics! Sometimes I wish Zeiss stayed with black enamel for longer. Black paint makes allot of sense in microscopes. Re: microscope buying question

So, speaking of DIC microscopes under $1000, here is on on sale right now.
It's Zeiss Standard for reflected light. Add transmitted light stage, DIC condenser with two arrows and a light source and you are all set, or just add light source and use it as reflected light-only scope.

I think that allot of approaches to purchasing a microscope are valid, however being a collector myself I always look at system compatibility as well as resale value. Olympuses are superb scopes. Early ones from the 60s are basically Zeiss clones, but starting from the 70s they ave developped their own really diverse line. Great optics, typical Japanese quality and attention to details. They may use zink alloy parts where old Zeiss used brass, but for all intensi...
