Re: Trinocular Projection Lenses for DSLRs
I could try adding a Nikon CF N 160mm objective (if I could get hold of one!) but then I presume I really would need matching compensating eyepieces and a Nikon compensating photo eyepiece? . Absolutely categorically not needed The whole reason that I suggested using a CF objective is that they are...

Re: Trinocular Projection Lenses for DSLRs
Since I doubt that you are picking up the intermediate image where it should be, I would stay away from Nikon CF objectives. They are pricier and you would still need to use an eyepiece to move the image from the trinocular tube to your sensor. . Viktor, Sorry if it was not obvious but ... given Lo...

That’s a superb quick-reference document, Carl
Thank You for producing it
I have taken the liberty of suggesting it be linked on the Manchester Microscopical Society website, as recommend reading.

Re: Trinocular Projection Lenses for DSLRs
You are possibly/probably missing the performance that comes from using an objective within its design envelope. […] I don't know, because I haven't seen the specification of what you are using. MichaelG. It's just a cheap trinocular scope which probably cost in the region of £300-£400 (I can't rem...

Re: Trinocular Projection Lenses for DSLRs
I'm afraid you're confusing me - I've always imaged on my old finite scope with a camera, trinocular tube and plan achro objectives up to 60x. There was never any other option. What are you saying I'm missing with my current setup? Louise You are possibly/probably missing the performance that comes...

... images via the trinocular tube with no other optics involved - just camera sensor and objective. Louise I can't leave this discussion without mentioning: That is a very bad place to start. You are effectively using the objective as a 'macro' lens This is only viable with a few [typically simple...

Re: Trinocular Projection Lenses for DSLRs
Hi Just looking at percentages may be an oversimplification. There are different types of aberration. But, for my purposes, I'm really only interested in improving rather than reaching a theoretical optimum :) Louise It's certainly a simplification ...but I thought it might be a good place to start...

Re: Trinocular Projection Lenses for DSLRs
I think I was just saying that with a finite tube microscope, and all else being equal, the quality of the image will be mostly determined by the quality of the objective i.e. apo objectives outperform achro ones. It would be strange if they didn't! Louise O.K. I'll buy that ... but look at this wa...

Re: Trinocular Projection Lenses for DSLRs
Yes, I've seen that. Obviously with a finite tube the camera sensor and objective have to be aligned and there will be chromatic aberration with an achromat - which is my point. Louise . Sorry but I simply don’t understand your comment ... david_b is having problems with an infinity corrected micro...

Ouch ... that’s very disappointing, David First thought is that the photo eyepiece must be ‘correcting’ for chromatic aberration that wasn’t there in the first place ! ... if you see what I mean. Previous era Olympus sub-stages (such as the machined part shown in Kurt's photos) were made of steel (not stainless) and very sturdy and strong. . But Kurt wrote: The Olympus substage assembly is made of aluminum, and milling it while simply held in the vise was no problem whatever despite the pre...

Re: Microstar IV LED Illuminator
The power supply is a dimmable constant current driver . . Very tidy conversion, Brian ... and obviously effective ! That power supply had me confused for a moment though, until I downloaded the datasheet “dimmable constant current” reads like a contradiction in terms; but I now realise that they m...
