Nice unexpected capture. In brightfield I slowed down and killed a few with a little alcohol.

I doubled the magnification and obtained a slightly better photo of the assassins proboscis. The needle like point at the end of the proboscis where the venom is injected shows up a little better.

No doubt those images places you into the world of a fruit fly. The time it takes to do all of this is worth the journey for most of us to view.

I wish we could have more study into the carnivorous plant species. I hope the ones we have jump back into life, if I have anything to do with it they will.
More study is needed, microscopy for sure.

Re: Water inside a pitcher plant
Interesting subject. Down the road a few miles from where I live we have the Doerun PitcherPlant Bog. This is a natural protected area with native species of pitcher plants that was purchased by the State of Georgia in the mid 1990`s. A good bit of reading and pictures from the picture plant bog is ...

Most of what I have left einman is dried up insects, for a long time I had spider phobia esp. with some of the childhood dreams I had of black widow spiders when I was around 8-10 years old. I remember turning down the page of any science book that had a picture of one. I continue to respect spiders...

I`m amazed that the red dye food coloring is better in this series to me also. I tried to mix up some dye colors at one time and the results were no better, BUT your experiments may show something better.

No doubt that simple red dye did a good job. I was going to make up some blackberry dye at one time but never got around to it. Blackberries will stain your fingers.
