Re: View through each eyepice is not aligned with my B&L sz7. How can I fix this?

I have this same setup. The spring-loaded yokes that carry the lenses can be a bit finicky for sure. Say, could you do me a favor? Could take some photos of the photo adapter, particularly the way the mirror is situated on the retractable arm? I have been having alignment issues and while I think I ...

Re: Strong beginner microbiology scope

Phase contrast is useful for looking at nematodes which are otherwise pretty transparent. Darkfield also. Phase is very nifty, but you might want to save some of your pennies while learn how to use a microscope as several older, discontinued lines can be found on the second hand market in some cases...

Re: Light Source Recommendations?

The B&L "toaster" and Nikon universal are good old lamps with field lenses and irises. They can be retrofitted with different lamps if you take notice of where the filament should go. The Nikon actually has a helical focus on it. AO, Tiyoda and lomo made some nice looking lamps too, although I don't...

Re: What to do with Nikon Fluor 10x in poor condition?

Yeah looks good scratches will cause some loss of contrast in proportion to the total surface area they take up which is not much. My Nikon 10x plan apo.has a chip out of it but you don't notice in use, especially as it's such a low power with a big good size front element

Re: 40x doesn't show a clear image.

Yes there is a condenser and I've already tried adjusting it. This whatci do when I use my microscope -take the dust cover off -turn on the microscope light -carefully put in a slide and make sure it is latched in -line up the sample That's pretty much it... Well you might try the focus knobs I guess

Re: 40x doesn't show a clear image.

Hmm Zeiss had a low power zoom objective. B&L had the student zoom scope that went up to 40x I think, and of course the low power flip-bottom lens. I would think it's a parfocal issue, and the user doesn't quite have enough experience to focus the 40x. The range over which a 40x will focus on a thin...

Re: Reflected light Kohler Illumination

Your field lens will collect light coming off the filament and direct it in more or less a straight line to your condenser. The field iris or stop can prevent some glare but also provides a centered surface to focus on when adjusting the condenser to make sure the filament is perfectly unfocused. In...

The field lens is the element that distinguishes Kohler from critical illumination in practice. The irises are useful but secondary.

Re: Reflected light Kohler Illumination

I don't remember Kohler mentioning epi illumination in his article. You're using the objective as a condenser, so I assume the most important part is getting a field lens after your light source with some adjustability.

Drawing has certain advantages, accentuating specific features is one I think. Every once in awhile, one can find a camera lucida to attach to the drawtube or eyepiece. I have an old Spencer so model that is incredibly beautiful, and it works well also. It could be an alternative if you find a cheap...

Re: Where to find these instant LED replacements?

The theoretical ideal light source is a single point and a field lens of the right size and focal length. Filaments and arcs would approximate these. As the na of your objective increases, the amount.of surface area from your light source you can use.to collect light diminishes, even with an ideal f...

You're gonna want as small a single.die as can deliver the light. The picture looks like an array, which might benefit from a diffuser in some setups.

Re: What magnification does AmScope MD130 1.3MP camera have?

The reduction lenses sold by Amscope and omax for around fifty bucks are quite bad. You might look for one from optem or spot. There also have been a few reduction lenses, some examples I know of from B&L and Nikon, that incorporate the eyepiece, basically a fixed afocal jig.
