Re: Microscope for video/visual art suggestions needed

I think ideally you're going to want a mitutoyo finescope with maybe a 20x at most. Pricey though, but it's set up for photos and enough working distance for lighting and interaction

Re: Comparison of the tiny scopes

It is a Nikon universal illuminator fitted with a quality single led at about 4 watts, adjustable with voltage dimming. I like the little Nikon lamps and have two of them, both fitted with LEDs. They are equipped with a field iris and have a large collector lens on a helicoid focuser.

Re: An objective for every situation

I never thought I would collect so many objetives but I seem to have one for just about every need. It looks impressive but there is a lot of duplication. However, several of the objectives have longer working distances than others, which I find that useful when viewing pond water without using a c...

Re: Buying Olympus parts, lots of stuff for sale.

I'm familiar with the lens arrangement. It is certainly B&L's finest variable focus achromat condenser. The iris could easily be fixed, but as it works more or less just fine I will leave it as it is. I am now think how to adapt or manufacture a condenser holder for it. Quite a catch, a piece I have...

Comparison of the tiny scopes

I was finally able to acquire a very nice Model R example for a song, and so I can post some pictures of its quality. https://i.imgur.com/Iw6OZd3.jpeg This is using a Nikon CF Plan Apo 10x on a full frame B&L Dynazoom with an Optem 50% reduction lens and a Pi HQ camera. The Dynazoom is outfitted wit...

Re: Buying Olympus parts, lots of stuff for sale.

Ah, I bought the B&L condenser. I am hoping it is the variable focus type as I would like it for an ancient Bausch stand of.mine. Anyway, I can say you certainly were easy to work with I have no idea how that condenser works, but I can confidently guess it is a "focus type". There are two dials, on...

I use phase. The old timers used picric acid to impart a yellow shade, but you probably don't want to do that.

I bet DIC works good.

Re: I think I need a tutor, OR microscopes for sale

This is an old thread but a scope with a mirror and that illuminator and that condenser is an excellent combination and should be able to provide even, bright light to the competent operator. Although small of field and without planar correction, several of those objectives should be able to produce...

Oh, just the mirror on the photo adapter would be ideal. My sz7 works very well, especially with those 15x uwf aerial surveillance eyepieces like you have. It's only when looking through the photo port do I see some issues. Thanks very much! I'm glad your instrument is working for you. The sz7 to me...

You might be focusing on the top of the condenser or having some surface of your field light source projected. You did your proper Kohler exercise I assume?

All of.my Zeiss pol objectives are specd to have no coverslip. If that's the case for yours you might want to keep an eye out for a 40x plan lens in the usual coverslip friendly format.

I have this same setup. The spring-loaded yokes that carry the lenses can be a bit finicky for sure. Say, could you do me a favor? Could take some photos of the photo adapter, particularly the way the mirror is situated on the retractable arm? I have been having alignment issues and while I think I ...

Phase contrast is useful for looking at nematodes which are otherwise pretty transparent. Darkfield also. Phase is very nifty, but you might want to save some of your pennies while learn how to use a microscope as several older, discontinued lines can be found on the second hand market in some cases...

The B&L "toaster" and Nikon universal are good old lamps with field lenses and irises. They can be retrofitted with different lamps if you take notice of where the filament should go. The Nikon actually has a helical focus on it. AO, Tiyoda and lomo made some nice looking lamps too, although I don't...

Re: What to do with Nikon Fluor 10x in poor condition?

Yeah looks good scratches will cause some loss of contrast in proportion to the total surface area they take up which is not much. My Nikon 10x plan apo.has a chip out of it but you don't notice in use, especially as it's such a low power with a big good size front element

Yes there is a condenser and I've already tried adjusting it. This whatci do when I use my microscope -take the dust cover off -turn on the microscope light -carefully put in a slide and make sure it is latched in -line up the sample That's pretty much it... Well you might try the focus knobs I guess
