Re: Inverted vs Stereoscope or Compound for Pond water organisms

I will be posting some useful equipment, slides, devices etc for use with inverteds and stereoscopes for pond sample examination. Please do the same. I will start another topic similar to this one but related to entomological studies.

Re: Inverted vs Stereoscope or Compound for Pond water organisms

Sorry for the older videos! But it helps to use older videos as a baseline to assess my improvement over the years. I plan on posting again soon. Anyone with a high end stereoscope such as a leica M165/205 or a comparable Olympus SZX16 or a Zeiss Discovery V12 that we could see images compared to an...

Re: Inverted vs Stereoscope or Compound for Pond water organisms

It's rather a shame that Nikon's AZ100 is the only macroscope to ever offer a DIC option. Still, techniques like rotterman contrast can give a very nice and tunable dic-like effect. I have photos of that scope and it is quite impressive. I have never actually seen one though. There was a time I loo...

Re: Inverted vs Stereoscope or Compound for Pond water organisms

AN inverted scope is best used to look at things that sink to the bottom so the can press up against the glass, or things you need to access while looking at them. You can get LWD condensers with NA of .5 readily-- they are pretty big and heavy and don't always fit. I use a .4 Nikon condenser when ...

Re: Inverted vs Stereoscope or Compound for Pond water organisms

Best of both worlds ? https://bolioptics.com/8x-50x-wf-inverted-zoom-stereo-microscope-144-led-ring-light/ MichaelG. That is more or less a stereoscope and still restricted by resolution. Im not sure how that would be superior to using a stereoscope with a culture dish other than being a bit more e...

Re: What's the Microscopy Budget at BASF?

I've seen microscope props used in science fiction movies with no objectives yet offering incredible views!! Ultra modern labs featured in movies using antique microscopes, mostly Zeiss or Ao's. So funny!

Inverted vs Stereoscope or Compound for Pond water organisms

Ok. I would like to open up a discussion and get individuals experiences and thoughts on the use of an inverted compared to a stereoscope for examining pond water organisms. Personally, I use both to examine water samples. Stereoscopes have a Larger FOV, a much larger working distance and can benefi...

Re: Zeiss stand- Help Identify

So another question. Why would they have put both plan and "F" (semi-plan?) objectives on the same scope, other than just to fill the spots?

Re: Zeiss stand- Help Identify

Well ..apparently one of the objectives is marked as PH1. There are 2 2.5x objectives one marked a "plan" and the has a letter "F". The same goes for the 10X one marked as "plan" and the other with an "F". Here are the objectives: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/800x600q70/923/KRPmiK.jpg https://...

Re: Comparison of resolutions of dry 40X Zeiss 160mm objectives with Pleurosira

Interesting! So, I have read that phase objectives are slightly disadvantaged verse the non phase version but had never actually compared them. This is rather dramatic to me. Do you think this is representative of all Zeiss phase vs non-phase or just this particular phase objective? I recognize you ...

Re: Zeiss GFL compatible objectives?

Phill,
When you say Zeiss cleaning solution are you referring to the spray solution available in wipes and bottles at Walmart, Amazon etc? Or something more industrial? I have plenty of teh regular lens solution and wipes as I use it often when cleaning my scopes optics.

Re: Zeiss stand- Help Identify

Ok it is a GFL based on the focus mechanism. The objectives do not appear to be phase, at least I see no reference to phase such as "pH" etc. So my initial observation was incorrect or at least partially incorrect. The eyepieces are B&L not Zeiss, unfortunately. This came from the University of Kent...

Zeiss stand- Help Identify

Ok-Attached are photos of a stand I just purchased. I am not familiar with Zeiss stands. I would appreciate any assistance identifying it. It appears to have phase contract. The trinoc tube is missing. The lamp is functional and everything appears to work smoothly. It is "dirty" as I have yet to cle...

Nikon 60x/0.70 na LWD objective

Has anyone used this objective on an inverted scope? It is somewhat rare. You can find a ton of Nikon 40x/0.55 or 0.60 na lwd objectives but the 60x is a bit more elusive. I recently purchased one to try on both an inverted and upright for viewing deep well concave slides and/or pond samples via the...

Thanks everyone. Yes, I have a search saved on E-bay. Hopefully I will not have to resort to gutting the stand to make it useable. I can wait.
