Continuing the idea for creating pictures from Pol crystal shots by mirroring the source image into symmetrical end results. REALLY must thank Hobbyst46 for the suggestion to use ethanol to dissolve paracetamol - also working on other medication, in this case a painkiller containing paracetamol aspi...

Re: Amoeba meets its nemesis
wow, interesting capture ! I've seen something like this myself - or at least part of it. Had the appearance of a cilliate 'trapped' inside a round shell or membrane - twitching and spinning around - i got the feeling that if i watched it long enough i'd see it 'hatch'? Might be related or might not...

a plus 1 for the 'used' side - i saw a leitz Plan Apo 25x objective for £60 on ebay today :P this kind of bargain optic sways it in my opinion - i did have the same question as you when i first started recently, and am glad i listened to the folks on here and bought an older scope. Re: Pol crystal mirror abstract
cheers guys :) it works better with some images than others - i added a few more to my flickr page from that same slide - i did like the grey and stony effect that it has. Although admittedly many of them weren't great by themselves, hence the photoshop! haha :D MicroBob - yeah that pretty much nail...

Skillful work, Aenima. You should be proud! I, too, am guilty of ebay insect scavenging! Well worth it! The detail in the hairs on the hind tarsus is very nice. p.s. I am now following you on flickr... do you have 2 flickr accounts? Thanks guys - much appreciated. :) pretty impressed with that 'Ext...

Re: Man-faced beetle pano using microscope
Beautiful. Did you do any post processing or is the pic basically a raw image? Yeah, i did some clean-up in post-processing - there were some missing areas of the pano, as well as a lot of dust on the sensor - also the background was uneven from using auto white balance and some issues with lightin...

Re: Man-faced beetle pano using microscope
hehe cheers - it was a little bit too ambitious for my skill level to try a panorama that size and detail - so many mistakes and glitches to be zooming in like that, but i did learn a few things and hopefully next time can compromise with a smaller project, but one that's done better. That Extrazoom...

Found this nice beetle on ebay - has missing parts (leg, antenna) sometimes I get 'A2' or 'A3' condition specimens cheaply for practicing photography.

thanks SunshineLW - great links and info. Re: a kind of Amoeba?
Helpful video. :) The pseudopods are lobose (somewhat tubular, blunt-ended), and it's clearly an amoebozoan. Cuxlander's suggestion seems like a very good one! Ferry's site has a section on microcoryciids (which seem to be found in moss, and include some purplish species): https://www.arcella.nl/mi...

here is a (rather sketchy) video showing one of these 'cookie amoeba's with extended pseudopods - unfortunately the view is jiggled around quite a lot due to a curious rotifer butting in and paying very close attention to the amoeba :) apologies for the lighting and other issues - i was adjusting th...

Very nice! Looks like a promotional video for GUF! ;) hehe, yeah i am loving the GUF - i have it set up so that i can quickly switch from a 10x with the 'DIC-like' effect, to a 4x objective giving a decent dark field effect - the filter sits just right to use it in either DF or oblique mode without...

QAgyfLbm4QA Close up aquatic worm - i believe it is an Oligochaete but its only a vague ID - i saw someone refer to one of these as a Bristle-Worm i think? Gradient universal filter was used with 10x leitz obj, canon dslr in Eos-movie record software. Thanks for looking. :) https://youtu.be/QAgyfLb...

a kind of Amoeba?
Hi, Wondering what this type of amoeba is, if it IS an amoeba? I am seeing a lot of them, mostly in my moss and rainwater samples - when I google 'amoeba' I can only find images of the standard shapeless type that seems made of oozing liquid, but these seem to be more solid - I know they're not, but...
