Re: trinocular head question

Interesting observation...just don't know what head their statement is based on. I sent them a request for info and will post it when and if I get something. I think the only info that will help is when I get the dimension from a 20 or 20-EB scope which, I believe, are both 160mm TL. Again, if it's ...

Dialux 170 vs 160 TL question

Regarding converting my old Dialuz, from 170 to 160, I would be very interested to know if the Dialux 20 and 20-EB have the same 40.13mm dimension as my Dialux. If they do then it seems the TL difference has to be completely related to the trinocular heads. Can someone measure their 20 or 20-EB and ...

Re: trinocular head question

Thanks for the in depth response. I use the teflon lube on flute axles and pointed locking screws and some telescope parts, but not on rack and pinions. I may have mentioned that I didn't intend to use it , on the microscope rack and pinions, for the reasons you state. Regarding converting my dialux...

dialux cleanup

Just got a circa 1972 Dialux with everything but trinocular head, objectives and light. It's in very good condition with just a lot of, slightly, stuck on dust. I've started to dis-assemble various mechanisms to clean and re-lube them. I finished the head mount mechanism and just need to lube it. I ...

Re: trinocular head question

[quote="henryr"]HI all, I got a Dialux manual for $6.95 from classicoptics@classicoptics.com. I'm hoping for a reply to my questions. How can I tell the difference between Leitz eyepieces for a 170mm and a 160mm TL scope? Will my Dialuz be converted from a 170MM TL to a 160mm TL scope if I put a 42m...

Re: trinocular head question

I've searched the web looking for a Dialux manual. All I've found were for the 20, 22 or 20 EB. Does anyone know where I can get a manual for the, I think pre 1975, 170mm TL grey model?

Thanks,

Re: trinocular head question

After reading the responses and links I have two questions 1.How can I tell the difference between eyepieces for 170mm and 160mm TL Leitz scopes? 2.Will using a Leitz head made for 160mm TL, with the 42mm flange diameter, make the Dialux a 160mm TL scope? I would think if that works I could use my Z...

Re: Leitz power unit/bulb troubleshoot

I just bought a dialux minus head, objectives, and light source. Regarding a light source, I'm thinking of making a sleeve with a hole in the center. It would be a slip fit into the bayonet hole, and it's center hole would accept my fiber optic cable light end. I would appreciate any thoughts on thi...

Re: trinocular head question

Thanks for the quick responses. I read that the scopes have a 170mm TL. While looking for tri heads on ebay I noticed, some have longer eyepiece tubes and, some have shorter eyepiece tubes. Would the shorter tubes be of a later vintage making the scope usable as a 160mm TL?

Thanks,

Re: trinocular head question

Thanks for the info. I have a circa 1972 Dialux ser.# 869975 and am looking for a trinoc head. I found some on ebay and they are listed as working on a Dialux. Re: trinocular head question

I've seen a prism swing out lever on the trinoc head in the ortholux manual. Does your trinoc have a similar device? Also when you were setting up for photography and looked into the tube, prior to inserting the camera components, what did you see? Was there some type of an optical glass component w...

trinocular head question

I've been searching ebay for a moncular scope and found some very nice leitz and other maker's trinocular scopes. I've found an interesting Leitz ortholux and laborlux. I'm guessing the knobs or levers on those heads may move the angular mirror, for the binoculars eyepiece tubes, out of the light pa...

Re: 370 vs 375

Is the only difference pole mounting versus resting on a bench? I would have thought a later model (the 375) would have some improvements...maybe AO thought that was an improvement. I don't wouldn't consider it that. I posted this and then read apochronauts post. Mine is unnecessary but I wasn't all...

sony cameras

Has anyone tried the sony, nex or alpha series, small cameras with on a scope? They are specified as having the CMOS APS-C sensor and would think that would be very good attached to a microscope. Much smaller and lighter weight than a full sized DSLR, of which many seem to have the same sized sensor...

Re: Kohler illumination

I really appreciate all the responses, but, have one last question. It seems the ortho illuminator (I O) requires the tube body to be vertical or, in other words, the objective and O I light sources axes need to be parallel. The 735 seems to have some flexibility, in that, it and scope mirror can be...

Kohler illumination

I'm still wondering what members think of AO 735 versus ortho illuminator. Any preferences or are both considered passe? I've read out the slick lighting systems, in some Zeiss scopes, but plan on staying with my old AO Spencer.

Re: AO spencer

I was just searching the touptek site and found this model, S3CMOS Series USB3.0 CMOS Eyepiece Camera, with specs that make it seem like a good option. It is smaller than their rectangular, larger, models with the same specs, but at a lower price. Has anyone tried these?

Re: binocular versus monocular and lighting

But instead of getting a new head for an old scope, how about getting a second old scope? The Spencer Model 35 is the mono version of your 15, just as the Model 33 is the single eye version of its predecessor, the Model 13, and you should be able to score a nice one for as low as $50 with a bit of p...

objective identification

Does anyone know what TL stands for on a zeiss neofluar 40/0.75 160/0.17 objective? It also has the number, 5024785, stamped or engraved on it. I couldn't find any info after 2 hours of searching.

Thanks,

Re: AO spencer

You have a very good technique. I love the spot, dust speck, free images. I've been told that some of the tiny non-object spots, I get, could be related to a dusty Abbe condenser. That will be an easy test. Did you a condenser for these pics and what do you use for lighting?

ao spencer series 15 mononcular tube body

Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase a good condition series 15 monocular tube body, ideally with a three objective turret but, if no turret, I would still like to be contacted. Frame, Eyepiece and objectives are not needed or wanted.

Does sound complicated. Did you install some kind of angled mirror to get the image from the objective to the eyepiece?

It looks like the image is still going through a prism system. Is that correct? If so, to what do you attribute the better image?

Re: binocular versus monocular and lighting

I’ve been thinking a monocular scope may be more to my liking, than my binocular scope, for a couple of reasons. First; it has no prisms or splitter requiring period cleaning and possible adjustment. I’m guessing those components may also cause some spots or less than idea views due to dust particle...

Re: AO spencer ortho illuminator

Hi all,

I found what appears to be a very nice working ortho illuminator. Will this provide kohler illumination and work with my AO series 15?

I also found a very nice, working, spencer 735 which is black so it would match my series 15. Would that be a better choice?

Thanks,
henryr
