Thanks for the replies and the mirror is glued in place. Now what is the process to align the mirror and how accurate must it be?
Thanks,
henryr

Re: AO series 10 loose mirror
Since the mirror is so light I'm thinking one small drop of slow drying super glue should hold it in place. And, with the mirror anchored at only one small spot, wouldn't the effect of differential of thermal expansion be insignificant? My only concern is aligning the assembly using the three screws...

Re: AO series 10 loose mirror
Thanks for the info. And I appreciate your point on expansion differential. That is an important consideration. And the 1031 illuminator lights up when the cable with the grounded plug is plugged in. So what does the small round plug under the base do?

AO series 10 loose mirror
Hi all, I just received an American Optical XH10TU-LW. It is in great condition except for one problem. While unpacking it I heard a rattling sound and found that a mirror, that should be mounted on a 45 deg. bracket, was lose. My question is should I re-glue it to the bracket with super glue or som...

Re: Do we need Phase Contrast?
After reading so many positive posts about AO infinity scopes I'm thinking of parting with my Leitz SM-M and Dialux. Would AO infinity objectives provide improved viewing?
Thanks,

Re: Do we need Phase Contrast?
Thanks. And if I finally understand correctly what you have described, I can't think of a reason why I would buy a BF scope if buying a PC scope and several BF objectives gives me the capabilities of PC and BF.

Thanks again. But to make sure I understand, you wrote diaphragms. Is diaphragms an alternate term for objectives?

Re: Do we need Phase Contrast?
Thanks for the detailed reply. So my amature interpretation is that BF specimens can be viewed on a phase system but their could be some spherical aberration, and that could be corrected by using BF objectives. Is that correct?

Re: Do we need Phase Contrast?
After reading posts in "Do we need Phase Contrast" I read that some types of specimens can't be seen, well or at all, with a bright field microscope which leads me to the following question. Will bright field prepared specimens be viewable on a phase contrast microscope with its phase contrast conde...

Re: leitz series 600 condenser spring needed
Thanks for the reply. Over the years Leitz made some with the leaf spring and some with two compression springs. I need one compression spring. I'm in Newington, Ct.. Please don't make one. FYI the dims. are: WD .02, OD .094, FL .305

leitz series 600 condenser spring needed
I disassembled a 600 series condenser about two years ago and, thanks to help from members of this site, I am now ready to reassemble it. But it appears that, sometime over the last two years, I misplaced/lost one of the two small compression springs that allow control of positioning of the condense...

AO series 10 trino head cleaning
I'm very close to buying a series 10 but some have a less than clean image when looking through the eyepieces. And some have no cover over the vertical tube or the binoc tubes so could stuff have fallen on the prisms? So is it an easy or difficult task to clean the prisms? Here is an example of what...

Re: Leitz 600 series condenser lens orientation
It appears that, sometime over the last two years, I misplaced/lost one of the two small compression springs that allow control of positioning of the condenser lens via the two knobs at the bottom of the condenser. Would anyone have a spare spring that they could part with? I would gladly pay for it...

Re: AO XY stage compatibility
The reason I ask is that I found a great looking sixty with a graduated stage and a few series 10 and 110 without a graduated stage. The sixty is only $30 so I would buy it just for the stage if it would mount on the a 10 or 110.

Re: Broken Microscope
Thanks Apochronaut for the info. So I'll keep the Leitz and Zeiss stuff with my Leitz SM-M and Dialux. Now that brings me to another question I've wondered about. I'm really a neophyte when it comes to microscopes, but in the late 60s I worked in a metrology lab at the leading jet engine maker and c...

Re: Broken Microscope
Thanks for the info. I'm looking for an inexpensive scope for my 10 yr old my grandson and wanted one that could work with a camera and have a moveable stage. Re: Broken Microscope
It seems that an AO sixty I'm considering may have a similar problem so all the responses and diagrams with parts list make me think I can fix it. However this scope is a bit different from all the other series sixty I've seen. The head has a second vertical viewing tube, maybe for a camera, and it ...

I thank very much you for the reply. My scopes are a leitz dialux and old black laborlux so I'm used to pretty good optics. Maybe you can help with this question. My condenser has two small wound springs to apply force against the brass flange of the lens barrel. Re: Leitz 600 series condenser lens orientation
Thanks for the reply. From my days working on old compur shutters the first thing I learned was never lube iris leaves.
My question is on the area where the lens barrel flange rests on the bottom of the bathtub where there are two finger screws used to adjust the lens axis.

Re: Leitz 600 series condenser lens orientation
So now I'm ready to reassemble the Leitz 600 condenser and I have a question about lubrication. And,...

Thanks for all the info but maybe I didn't approach this task properly. My difficulty was working with the leaves at the bottom of an approx. 1" deep well. Re: Leitz 600 series condenser lens orientation
I thank you and Charles for the info. I took my 600 apart about two years ago and it took me almost that long to get the iris leaves back in. Over the time I struggled to get them back in it became an obsessive compulsion and after a number of iterations of making help tools on my lathe the iris now...
