Re: Problem mounting Canon EOS R10 on Olympus BH2 BHS

Of course it's solvable using the trinocular head. The Canon EOS Utility 3 is not listed on the Canon website as being compatible with the R10. It looks like EOS Utility 3.16.0 is the newest compatible version. Canon support should have known that. There's a newer version of PDP 4 as well. The R10 u...

No. The BX-40 stage mount is larger, so the BH-2 stage won't fit.

Yeah, I bid a ridiculous amount for the Christmas Tree slide - I think I have all of the others - but it went way past what I thought was remotely possible. Good thing the money went to Klaus' wife!

Re: Help - Making a permanent blood smear slide

It's easy. The mountant really isn't important as long as it lasts. I've had to re-coverslip slides I made in the 70's because the mountant dried up and pulled back from the edges of the coverslip. More modern versions work better and last a very long time. You can use Canada Balsam, Permount, Eupar...

Re: Hemacytometer Cover Glass

The hand-held pipette bulbs are good for larger volumes, but nothing this small and requiring this much control. The blood dilution pipettes use really small volumes of blood and diluent. I've never seen anyone use a bulb or syringe with one of these pipettes. It would be really difficult to do when...

Triarch are nice, US made teaching slides that are still being made. Generally hard to beat for quality and range of subjects. Pretty pricey new though: https://www.triarchincorporated.com/

Re: Hemacytometer Cover Glass

The CV's of manual chamber counts are pretty high. There is a lot of variability in any manual process. Consistent mixing of the particles/cells in the liquid, consistent sampling technique, consistent loading volume, accurate dilution, are you counting a single type of particle or cell or are you t...

Re: Olympus BX41 and Olympus BX50 parts compatibility

It's not so much a matter of buying cheaper parts, it's current parts. Also, when new versions come out they usually quit manufacturing the older version, even if it's compatible. The few available are old, unsold stock. Try to buy stage racks for a BX-50 from Olympus and you'll see what I mean. Rem...

I just noticed a big problem in the head of the 41. The light path control rod is broken off. The rod is attached to the prism assembly by a very fine (read fragile) screw thread at the prism end. Obviously this one got banged against something once and broke it off. You can't tell by lookin...

Re: Olympus BX41 and Olympus BX50 parts compatibility

Remember, when the documentation for the BX-50 was written, the U-PCD2 didn't exist, so it's pretty hard to reference a non-existent part. The U-PCD2 is compatible with the BX-50, as are almost all of the other BX series accessories. The stage and condenser mounts are the same and the dovetails are ...

Re: Olympus BH2 camera suggestions given my parts/equipment

The U-PMTVC is a direct swap for the BH-2 version MTV-3 and works even better as it has the ability to parfocalize. The easy way is something like a Panasonic GH4, or other M4/3 camera, an NFK 3.3x (which with the 0.3x U-PMTVC3 give essentially direct projection with the eyepiece corrections needed)...

Use a reversed 10x wide field objective as a magnifier to check the lens condition prior to and during cleaning. Just Look at light reflections off of the surface of the objective lens to see any contamination or remaining film. 70% to 90% isopropanol and good cotton swabs work fine. I actually use ...

Re: Bought an Olympus BH2 w/ a polarizing attachment.. I think I’m missing a piece

You need a polarizer above the lamp as you suspected. The U-POT is fine, and what it was designed to use, but they're relatively expensive and a bit hard to find. Get yourself a 45mm linear (not circular) photography polarizer. Anything sized to fit the light port or larger (even a little smaller) w...

woyjwjl, First, I was referring to centering the phase annuli with a CT, not DIC. And you'll notice "need" is in quotes. Second, you don't need the CT to see the interference fringes either. Just pull the eyepiece and look down the tube. You can do the same thing with the phase annuli, it's just a l...

@tom jones but if I want to do BF with the BH2-UCD won’t I be hindered by the NA 0.9? Why is it so much lower than even the standard 1.25 abbe condenser. No. Oil. Everything in microscopy is a tradeoff. You give a little one place to get a little somewhere else. You only need enough resolution to a...

Re: WTB Olympus BH2 DIC/NIC

Better is probably a bit subjective and depends on what your ultimate goals are. If you want to do phase, the Phase/NIC condenser has you covered, as it has phase annuli as well as the DIC prisms permanently mounted. But you need phase objectives, and these are not optimal for DIC. So, two sets of o...
