Re: The Myth of the Digital Microscope

I bought a number of them over the years. Some of them make claims to be 1,000 power. Actually the magnification comes from how close the subject is from the lens. These pictures of my stage micrometer were taken with the camera sitting on top of it, as close as you can get. The most magnified pictu...

The Myth of the Digital Microscope

I was buying digital microscopes for a while. I was touting the images I obtained as micrographs. I tested the digital microscopes I have against a stage micrometer and retuned a startling conclusion. They don't resolve like microscopes. These are as magnified as they get. One brand is slightly stro...

Experimenting with Dark Field

I want to thank this website for the stimulation and motivation to learn new things. My microscope has no filter holder. Thanks to your suggestions, I developed a substage shelf over the light source that I can put "filters" on. My filters are very primitive. I mounted small shapes on microscope sli...

Neat work. Let me ask, How would you describe the effects of these cut profiles? I found if I just block part of the light with a rectangular card, I can adjust the dark field quite a bit.

Re: Mask Carrier for Scopes Without

Starting with rudiments.
I made a cardboard tube and put it around the light source.

Then I put a piece of carboard on top of the cardboard on top of the tube.

As I move the cardboard across the tube I get some dark field effects.

Making a filter holder

My microscope does not have a filter holder. The "diaphragm" is just a series of various sized holes above the lamp. It there any way I can add a real filter holder so I can get a real dark field image?

I use different lamps. This LED light is for taking macros with a camera. I had an old bricked camera I mounted it on to hold it. I used to have it taped to the arm of the microscope but I took it off. It was clumsy.

Does the use of a top stage light with the bottom light minimized count as dark field illumination? It looks like it.
