Re: live samples

Do you have access to moss nearby?

You could try taking a sample of moss and placing it in a small plastic cup of water, then waiting for a few days for microbes to grow from it.

I found lots of rotifers starting to grow from this stuff.

Re: First bacterial culture

Good job!

You said you grew them yourself. Is it possible to tell me what you did to grow them?

Is there a cheaper method? Something I can find around the home?

Re: I’m struggling to have a closer look at Rotifers.

It's not that because I can see them swimming and moving all around the slide. When they are not swimming their tail moves like caterpillars.

There was a rare moment where they stood still for 10secs and open their mouth.

I’m struggling to have a closer look at Rotifers.

Hello fellow microscopists.

I have been recently looking at Rotifers that I’ve cultured, but there is one problem. They seem to move around a lot and I struggle to get a good view on 400x magnification to have a closer look at them.

Is there a way slow them down or freeze them in a way? :|

I agree with you. I seem to find lots of Protists and Rotifiers.

Thank you all for your advice. Will try them out. ;)

LOOKING TO BUY PREPARED MICROSCOPE SLIDES.

Hello.

I’m interested in buying cheap microscope slides off anyone who doesn’t want them anymore.

Your offers and pictures would be much appreciated.

It would be great if you already have an eBay account as it would make whole process much simpler and faster.

I'm a noob and I can't find any Paramecium or Water Bears.

Hello. I live in London, UK.

I'm a newbie microscopist and I'm struggling to find any Paramecium or Water Bears.

Can I grow my own Water Bear or Paramecium? Because I don’t have access to an aquarium.

Anyone have any tips or advice?

I'm a Newbie - Need help cleaning the 400x objective lens.

Hello.

I need good advice on how to clean a 400x objective lens which has become dusty and oily.

The lens has anti-fungal coating which I do not want to remove if possible. Can anyone give me any good and sound advice?

That would be much appreciated.

What are those? They look like eggs...

I placed some moss & soil sample in a plastic cup with 50ml of water in it. It's been left like that just under a month now. Took a drop under a microscope to see what organisms have grown and I found these egg looking things. Specimen taken at 100x magnification. Can anyone identify? :? https://i.i...

I'm a Newbie - Need help cleaning objective lens.

Hello. I’m new to microscopy and I just bought a cheap second hand Bresser Biolux on eBay. I did some checks and everything seems alright apart from the 40x objective lens which has a dull colour, possibly oily or dirty. I need expert advice on cleaning the objective lens as I’m completely clueless....

Hello. I’m a newbie with a microscope and I’m from London UK !

Hello everyone, I live in London UK. I’m a fresh starter; eager, ready and exited to discover new species under the microscope. I Just bought a cheap second hand Bresser Biolux of eBay. I am mostly looking forward to microbes that are alive and active. Mostly found in moss, pond water and so forth. ...
