Re: Camera taking bad bright field images
I just put the camera on the trinocular port without the adapter and it seems like the image quality might be better. The issue now is that there is no seal so outside light is getting in. I'm thinking maybe I will break the glass out of the adapter and then I can use the adapter without the 2x vign...

Re: Camera taking bad bright field images
Maybe flare from inside the adapter? This wouls not be such an issue in darkfield but would kill contrast in brightfield. If it's the same generic Chinese 2x adapter most sellera have it gets pretty variable results from system to system. The amazon listing looks a bit dofferent though. What micros...

Re: Camera taking bad bright field images
If your scope has a field diaphragm, you might check to ensure it's stopped down to "match" the objective. A wide-open field diaphragm can produce "washed-out" images similar to your bright field images. If the field diaphragm is OK, I would check the condenser diaphragm to ensure it also "matches"...

Camera taking bad bright field images
I have a panasonic lumix g85. It takes decent enough dark field pictures and videos but doesn't do that well with bright field. I don't know if it is an issue with the camera or the adapter. When using a cellphone with no adapter the images come out better, the dark field pictures are also better wi...

Re: Spins/twirls and looks like a bow
The michel marie video must have been filmed with a cover glass since they aren't spinning and they look kind of flattened. If I ever see this process again maybe I will try to film it all the way to the end.

Re: Spins/twirls and looks like a bow
I believe this is a pair of metopid ciliates ( Metopus , etc.) in conjugation. Ciliate sex! :) Is that really what this is? I'm trying to find other videos or articles on ciliate sex but I can't find much. I can't see any crease that would divide this into two different ciliates. Luckily this came ...

Why did it die? Disintegrated
g01YtCzYU3E Skip to 0:50 There were a lot of dileptid's so maybe this organism came in contact with dileptid toxin (in another video a dileptid attacks something and it fell apart just like this thing did). Or it got cut by one of those particles it ran into. Does anyone know how dileptid toxin wor...

You can see that creature disintegrate from coming in contact with the dileptid's toxin

Re: Crushed to death by air bubble
Nice video. :) This is a rather squashed dileptid ciliate ( Dileptus , Rimaleptus , Monilicaryon , etc.) The cytostome (cell mouth) at the base of the proboscis is briefly visible, early in the video. The cell is somewhat deformed, probably by coverslip pressure. Before the water under the coversli...

Hm your video is very similar. I don't think they are the same creature though but I really have no idea.

Re: Mandarin Orange Juice
I'm just guessing they are bacteria. The fluid was moving a lot at first but it just looked like these were bacteria because they appeared to move independently of the motion of the rest of the current. The supposed bacteria in question is observed with the 40x objective but that is paired with a ca...

Protozoa beginning asexual reproduction?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tuva2uC4ukY I don't know what this is. A protozoa I guess? It keeps changing shape like it is about to split into two beings but then it goes back to its normal shape. Was it about to reproduce or just changing its shape because that is what it does sometimes? Now tha...

Ecosphere under the Microscope
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mzuyf0xPpE&t I made an ecosphere with a jar and water I got from a pond. You are supposed to leave ecospheres in indirect sunlight. I put mine by a window and thought maybe the light was indirect enough. But it turned out the light was more direct so it overheated an...
