The manual for my Nikon says 32 to 102 deg F. That may be fine for the scope but not for
me!

What is a realistic temp range for my three scopes? They are stored in the
house, which is 66 to 73 deg. l have not had much time to learn how to
stabilize the lab temp, which has a small wall heater, and a thermostat controlled
ceiling vent.

I did not plan on a cap. Once I have one built I'll post pictures. The purpose is for
high volume scanning with the inverted, but I really want to get up to speed with
the diatom processing, There is this awesome thread here..............

I invested in glass, and glass cutter, and will try to fabricate my own, but thanks
for thinking of me. My new lab only needs flooring and an 8' desk mounted, but I
don't get the new house keys for a few days.

Those beautiful rings! Could I use the same enamel to build up a perimeter
dam to create a very small rectangular well slide? 2mm thickness.

My setup would be like yours, except the Nikon has a nice slit between the head
and body that will accept a fairly thick sheet of polarfilm. There is such a wide
variety of these films I'm hoping to avoid a costly mistake!

Is there a 'best' polarfilm ? Brand, thickness, or any special quality? It
will be paired with a camera lens polarizer.

The petri dishes were ok til I added the mechanical stage, now I want to fabricate rectangular
slides with sides. Like a big well slide. I can't free hand a petri dish on high power.

Apo, when viewing through the bottom of a flask with an inverted scope, that is when
longitudinal spherical abberation would benefit from the collars correction?

I suppose you could think of the bottom of a petri dish as being a coverslip. I have long working distance objectives with collars on my inverted scope. Here's looking up atcha!

Rod, picture #4, if I took a tiny sample from just above the sand would it give any hint as to its content? All the sand I collected from Ocean Shores has dried out. Should I toss it? Sort of in a bind as all my stuff is already packed for the move, but the Nikon and a well slide are accessible. Dale

Pete, how do you prepare medicines to observe as crytals? Being 74 I have a number
of potential specimens!! Where do you get caffein crystals, from a Starbucks
dumpster?

It was hard to find, very thin, and 4cm wide. Have not found film yet, because I have not looked!
