And thank you, apochronaut. I have been meaning to test a triple alliance df condenser to see if it is any different than the later ones and this trick may come in handy.

Re: Testing high NA darkfield condenser
Also you can use a funnel stop on lots of high na objectives without an iris, works well even with paraboloid condensers which can be had by the bushel used.

Re: Testing high NA darkfield condenser
I think you might have the difference in NA between achromat and more highly corrected objectives backwards. With a 100x objective design you would start at NA 1.4, then drop it down after you realize the design of an achromat will throttle the color resolution anyway and you might as.well get a lit...

You can make a thin slide act like a thicker one with a more viscous immersion oil applied to the bottom

Re: Compatibility of new eyepieces
I had thought those glasses meant a large amount of relief, more than 20mm for example. The stock eyepieces with the swift may already be able to accommodate glasses. It is a popular model, so someone probably could say if this is true.

Re: Camera FOV area equals eyepiece FOV- Why?
Not sure I understand the question yet. What would you expect the fovs to be? It might require a little bit of knowledge of the ray path, how the eyepiece picks up the image, and the camera sensor size.

I am doing a bit of reading on early twentieth century ripolin formulations and here I think some.anachronism is for the best. Blown oil and copal admixtures, diterpene resins and maybe some lead for good measure.

If you like the brass then clear shellac is traditional. You can rub on the shellac or spray it then fume in alcohol.

Every 160 lens needs the correct eyepiece. Some are reasonably close matches like some Zeiss and Nikon hk but some are not like Zeiss and Nikon cf.

Re: Cover slip thickness
I believe it is because routine lab work often ends up with a thin layer between the cover slip and sample, so the slip is made thinner to compensate. It's also not noticeable until NA gets a kve the .6 or .65 of your typical 40x lab objective. For these high dry objectives I have found that coversl...

There may have been uv emitting (black light) ring bulbs, but in the main this kind of fixture was used for regular reflected brightfield. There were these things called "corvascopes" us...

I think it is slightly noticeable when using better corrected objectives, especially at the higher powers. For achromat objectives I don't notice much difference.

Re: Magnification Issue
Well it's a camera, so the magnification is going to depend on the size of your computer screen or the eventual print. The idea behind camera adapters is to size the image onto the camera's sensor/ film. Most DSLRs will be able to do a good job capturing the resolution from most of the image circle ...

Re: Expanding Darkfield Stop
I think the problem with this device as well as the Heine is that considering an objective, you don't need or want a continuously variable df patch or phase ring. Rather, you want the correctly sized patch or phase ring. Df condensers on the used market are common and cheap. Aside from the beautiful...
