Death of a Large Worm
I found the remains of a large worm. Activity within the body cavity may be bacteria (I originally thought the movement was organelles in the cells).

Re: Improving Top-Stage Lighting Using a Smaller Aperture on the Lamp
Thanks guys. The camera is fine. It's me. I am an amateur photographer. A lot of people in my camera club hate the way I use processing, even in regular photos. I'll get some right and some wrong. Thanks for your support. . I do like to play around and try all kinds of strange and silly devices to s...

Re: Improving Top-Stage Lighting Using a Smaller Aperture on the Lamp
I have a rudimentary microscope, the Amscope M150. I don't have a rear condenser or diaphragm. I take pictures with my Omax camera which makes 640X480 pixel images. I apologize but I am trying to play with the big boys and make some kind of contribution.

Improving Top-Stage Lighting Using a Smaller Aperture on the Lamp
I use top lighting for dark field images because I don't have a real filter holder. I've been experimenting with making a pseudo diaphragm for my top stage light. The question is, does a small aperture make my top-stage illumination sharper in dark field. I cut a 2 mm hole in a piece of aluminum foi...

Bacteria Swarm!
Bacteria quickly breeding in water where a large squash was immersed over the winter. There many kinds. The funny thing is I could barely make them out optically through the eyepiece but the eyepiece camera revealed them very clearly.

Very impressive! I agree with you completely. The beautiful thing about art originating out of microscopy is that it is depicting the real world in a way that casual observers never see it. Are These Bacteria?
My algae culture had a big bloom of spores and almost all the larger protozoans seem to have disappeared. My lower two objectives reveal nothing moving. In the high power I see this. They seem to be about 75 microns in diameter. Are they bacteria? bacteriasharp2.jpg bacteriasharp1.jpg bacteria.jpg h...

I have some great specimens of algae with diatoms. Is it possible to preserve these? How? How do you use nail polish in making permanent slides?

Apparent Microbe Desert Actually Teeming
In medium power. my plant rooting water sample seemed empty of life except for scraps of dead matter. But when I went to high power, it was teeming. I think the organisms were bacteria not visible at medium power.

Re: From the Biofilm
It was in a closed bottle--but I received the original water sample from my son who has a salt water aquarium. It's been in the small bottle for a two months or so. At first it was overrun with algae harboring long worms. Then the algae produced multitudes of spores. The spores seems to have formed ...
