Re: Onion Thrips on clover flower

Thank You. I put the flower under the stereo scope and watched them move in out of the folds. This one moved into a perfect position and I clicked "snap".

Onion Thrips on clover flower

Captured this 2mm Onion Thrips on a clover flower. These guys are so small when viewed with the naked eye, they look like walking hairs. Amscope SE 305 Stereo using 5MP (MD500) camera and software. Single shot image.

measuring the camera's power?

I have Amscope's MD500 (5MP) camera for my scopes. I viewed the W in the word "we" on a U.S. Cent. I took a transparent plastic ruler and measured the width of the top of the W viewed through the eyepieces at 30x. It was 1mm or ever so slightly larger. I, then, measured the view of the top of the W ...

Re: these tweezers for Insect and flower holding?

My Amscope SE305 stereo has a 6mm threaded hole for accessories. Using the Jewelers tweezers, I could use various size washers to support flowers by the stems and tapered bottoms with the holes in the washers. I could use something circular and transparent with a pin in it to hold a larger specimens...

Re: these tweezers for Insect and flower holding?

No. I don't mean what's the physical difference of the two hole types. I'm asking what difference it makes whether an accessory uses one hole type or the other?

Re: these tweezers for Insect and flower holding?

Perhaps I am not understanding, but is the thread concern an issue due to a lack of a theaded hole? Otherwise, I don't see the difference between the two holes.

these tweezers for Insect and flower holding?

My stereo scope is the Amscope 305. As an accessory, these Jewelers tweezers are available for it. Since these are made with jewels in mind, will they hold too tightly for viewing insect and flowers or other softer things? The item in the link I am looking at is the center item, with the silver colo...

Re: manufacturer quality question

Top-end quality CAN be amazing. Years ago, I was viewing through a friend's 12.5" Newt with Teleview Nagler eyepieces. The glass was so clear and aberration free that it was invisible. I literally had to tap the glass with my fingernail to verify there was glass there. The stars were so bright and s...

manufacturer quality question

I currently own an Amscope 305 stereo scope. I like it, but am wanting something larger and of higher quality. My problem is, as far as microscope quality is concerned, I don't know the quality scale. What I mean is, if Amscope were a car, would it be a Chevy, Toyota, BMW... I don't know where to go...

Stereo Photo Maker

I have been told by a couple people of a free software program called Stereo Photo Maker where you can take a left and right eyepiece images from a Stereo scope and combine them into one 3-D image. I have found several versions of this but can't seem to find which one to download. Can someone post a...

Re: flower holder idea?

What I have been using is a large pair of tweeters, and wedging the stem (very short piece) into the part where the two pieces come together. One thing I was thinking is to drill a pilot hole into a piece of soap stone or some other heavier "stand".

flower holder idea?

I like to examine plants and flowers, not only for their own detail, but also for the very small insects hidden inside. Does anyone have a simple idea for a flower holder with the Stereo scope in mind?

Wonderful images. Looks as though they are satellite x-ray images of pyramids. How did you get the metallic x-ray look? Special equipment, or just the natural photographic process?

dirt and mud in samples?

When I collect yard stuff, like moss and grasses, to see what I can find, one thing I DO find is that when I soak it in distilled water, dirt (mud) makes things so dark, I can't seem to see anything else. Now, I'm not talking about a lot of dirt here, even a tiny bit is enough to muck things up when...

Cyclops on my Daphnia slide?

I received some prepared slides, 22 in two packs. Particularly interesting are the slides of the Cyclops, Hydra, Diatoms, and Daphnia. On one of the Daphnia slides, there seems to be a Cyclops. The Pic below is of the "cyclops" from the Daphnia slide. Is this a mistake or am I misidentifying it?

a question of HAIR

Over the last little while, I have been itching to get samples of hair of common animals to compare those to human hair, just for my own education. I have found these from the Carolina Biological Supply Company: http://www.amazon.com/Hair-Comparison-Microscope-Slide-Set/dp/B007VCMYCC/ref=pd_sim_sbs_...

Good Prepared Slides as examples of water life AND pros and cons of concave slides?

To assist in my identification of microscopic water life, I thought I would buy a sample box of several prepared slides, say 50 or fewer, to show me what the common organisms look like in real life - well, without the water I guess. To begin, I have been looking at several offerings on Amazon. Befor...

benefit of bino view for compounds?

I can understand why there is an advantage to Binocular views for stereoscopes because you are getting a three-dimensional view. What then is the advantage of binocular viewing, aside from comfort, if the view is still only two-dementional?

There are 4 "charlies". My name is Charlie (Charles) too. Also, the word is spelled "niche" and i correctly pronounced "Knee' sh"

I asked this question because we have several ponds and a fairly large lake near us. Wondering if the lake would be better than the ponds.
