Re: Zeiss Cardiodid condenser fails with high NAs - peeling paint ?

Just thought I would dig up this old gem of a thread to convey the story of my success in restoring the opaque black paint on my Zeiss Ultra condenser. The product I used was a rattle can of VHT wheel paint . I didn't buy it specifically for this purpose - I shamelessly salvaged it, full, from a ro...

Maybe there is no problem with the condenser - but the objective turret (nosepiece) is slightly off-position ?

In a complete Kohler setup, there is one more degree of freedom - the distance between the lamp and the collector optics. On my very old microscope for example, which dates from the 1950's, that distance can be adjusted by sliding the lamp housing slightly in or out, until the filament image is def...

The same footnote #2 applies to the two dry planapo objectives, 40X0.95 and 63X0.95, on the previous page of that same Leitz catalog (p. 19, top table).

Re: Camera sensor size to see bigger F.O.V.

What is the FN of the microscope ? a camera image width of 0.74mm from a 40X objective seems to me very large. If the FN for example is 26, the image diameter through the eyepieces would be 0.65mm. Or is the 0.74mm obtained from a 10X objective ?

Copied from the site of a firm named Synopsys. It shows the light losses when the tip is tapered to produce a narrower end.
They state that losses are substantial.

Re: Dichromatic Illumination?

A light guide does not "concentrate" light or "funnel" it or focus it, regardless of the geometry of the tip (square cut/frustum). As mentioned, one can axially drill a 5mm LED, insert a 1mm-diameter (say) optical fiber into the bore, attach it with epoxy, and cover the LED by means of a PVC shrink-...

It might help to know which type of microscope illumination is wished. Both brightfield and fluorescence, at least, benefit from a single die LED source, rather than a multi-LED arrangement. Besides, I wonder about the wavelength combination... For visual observation, green or blue or amber light ar...

I have an old condenser top lens, Olympus achromat aplanat 1.4, in fairly good condition I think. Looks similar to yours and perhaps will fit your condenser. Thread diameter 35mm. Re: Tools for dissecting really tiny spiders and insects

You might try very fine syringe hypodermic needles. They go by gauge number, #33 is the finest I ever met, but #27 (and maybe grades #28-#30 too) are easy to find (on eBay, etc). The tip of a hypodermic needle is actually a tiny blade. Another useful very thin utensil, though not a blade, is the nee...

The lens closest to the eye is a single lens. The lens furthest from the eye is a doublet.
Is it a KPL or KPL-W eyepiece ? your description of the issue does indeed indicate delamination.

Re: Using Industrial Microscope Camera having panasonic CMOS sensor.

Likely, full control of the camera is only available when it is connected to the HDMI. I wonder about untold limitations in the declared simultaneity of output to HDMI and USB. Also, USB 2 is inadequate for decent videos. Also, the pushbuttons are small and dense and are possibly a source of vibrati...

Also note that the listed camera lacks a 0.5X reducing lens, which likely will provide a much wider FOV than without it, and that the FPS is relatively low at high quality video. I would prefer USB 3 rather than USB 2, if choosing an eyepiece camera. The listed camera appears to be bundled with a co...

2) I understand what you write - but why is it in the analyzer slider? Any particular reason? What's the benefit of this, in lieu of placing it in the cube itself?
