I think the specimen in question is; Brachysira follis (Ehrenberg) R. Ross The stria is of longitudinal line leading into the centre nodule. It appears to be slightly disfigured. Romford in London a quick visit.
I visited a colleague who lives in London for a visit to the local river, the river Rom. This was to collect a sample of diatoms and hopefully here are some photos of that visit.

Hey Guys; There is also another way to clean diatoms without the use of any chemicals. Go to Amateur Diatomist,
Vol 6 pt.1 and Zero chemical cleaning of diatoms.
It really works. Having a few problems downloading my photos.

A different method is to use 'Blue Tack' it works wonders.
