Re: My first sighting of a Tardigrade

Beautiful 'bear', and wonderful video clip, thanks BillP.! On my recent hunt for bear with my good doggies...I'd say I encountered the same species. Is your enhanced BF contrast a way of saying you used phase contrast? I think my DL phase objective views seem just like your image captures. thanks f...

My first sighting of a Tardigrade

I've always thought that Tardigrades were interesting creatures ever since first learning about them, but I had never seen one in the samples taken from my local pond. A few days ago I finally ran into one and made a little video about my encounter. (And NO, the thumbnail was NOT made by me!) rjlzVJ...

Re: Conjugation in Vorticella?

Thanks to Rod, Kurt, and 75RR for your kind remarks. I'm glad to be contributing again to this friendly and informative forum. Gekko, after reading a detailed and very informative comment on the video by Bruce Taylor (on another forum), it appears that you may be correct after all in calling what is...

Re: Conjugation in Vorticella?

Bill, very nice to enjoy another very interesting video from you after a long hiatus. Very nice! In my professed ignorance, I would guess that this was the same phenomenon as you showed in the "inset" video: cell division. But I hope an expert would enlighten us. Thanks, gekko! As for what we are s...

Conjugation in Vorticella?

After not touching my microscopes for a year and a half, I was fiddling around with them in the last few days and made a little video. It's not likely to be interesting to you unless you are curious about reproduction in vorticella. I realized after the video was uploaded to YouTube that it had been...

Re: Desmid Closterium II

JimT, Kurt, and gekko, even though I seem to have lost interest in using my microscopes, I still take a look at your forum from time to time to see what you guys are up to. I am happy to see that this forum seems to be doing just fine!

Thanks, Rod. It's been so long since I have posted on this forum, I couldn't remember how to put the video in the post, so I just included the link. Might have to dust the old microscope off and try to do another video or two.

Re: Desmid Closterium II

Rod, nice sharp image of Closterium and I liked the videos as well. Nice job! I haven't done any microscopy in about a year and a half, but I searched through some of my old videos and found one I liked of Closterium. I never tired of watching those little crystals in the tips. DJs3oHKfBNE
