Mounting paramecium

#1 Post by Greg Howald » Fri Oct 30, 2020 2:46 pm

Now that I have a great many living paramecium, any hints about making permanent slides?
Should I put slides on a slide warmer to hasten evaporation?
Should I use a dye?
Should I heat set the specimen?

Hi Greg,
there is quite an interesting protocol that uses silver nitrate (has to be fairly fresh). Parts of the surface are silvered and a permanent slide results.
I have enclosed an image of a failry messy slide after a recipe I don't have at hand now.

Bob. This is a beautiful paramecium statue. It's a shame you can't mount it for display in the living room.
