Is 50 microns sufficient for a plankton net?

50µm is good. I use a 90µm net and it works well too. It isn't that everything above mesh size is lost. A 25µm sieve is already difficult to pass for clean water.

Thanks I have 50 micron to make the net. Glad to know I'm on track.

We us 20 um for dinoflagellates and 80 um for zooplankton (e.g. copepods), so 50 um should get a reasonable selection. 20 um net can clog with algal blooms and needs a good wash after use.
