Good stuff.

Re: Sections
Rod if there was a way of you and others going through my exhibition box then I would gladly give you the box. Where we a lucky enough to exchange and buy other peoples slides they have for sale and any I might have for sale (which I have produced) then we find we are building up a great selection and variation of microscopic slides. If a member dies then its normal for them to say to the committee to have the slides they have collected and sell them to the members at the meeting, proceeds to his next of kin. That way we don't mind paying a little over the top for a slide. Is it not possible for your county or counties to organise something along those lines? I do realise your counties are absolutely massive.
I will bung a couple more in soon as I like studying the sepals, pollen grains, ovule, and placenta which show well in good sections.
Here's to all members of this forum A HAPPY NEW AND REWARDING MICROSCOPICAL YEAR TO YOU ALL.

Re: Sections
Right members to try and bring you up to date. Starting from the top of photos is the first 5.
1. Section of Fig tree mounted by Arthur C. Cole. (and written in the book of Microscopical Mounts and Mounters by Brian Bracegirdle) is the following about A.C.Cole;
Arthur C Cole (1821-1900) is mentioned by Gore's Liverpool Directory of 1870 as Arthur Charles Cole,
professor of music, at 66St. Domingo Vale Anfield, Liverpool. he is known to have been an organist, but the labels on his later slides usually state that he took a prize medal at the Paris Exhibition of 1867, so he was obviously interested in mounting while still making a living from teaching music.
He mounted slides of diatoms and histological subjects of the highest quality, beautifully labelled using paper of a light blue in colourand most of them carrying a small label with a crest and the words Cole Deum
(Worship God).
2. Section of Lime tree, mounted by John T. Norman, Norman mounts are always of the best quality and are keenly sought-after by collectors, there is much more written concerning this gentleman.
3. Section of Lime Tree again as part of a couple of sections on one slide by J.T. Norman.
4. Section of Castor oil plant by Bioseal. Its a fruit in ts. include slide number 5 as this was mounted by Bioseal and is of a Field Poppy flower bud ts.
Biosil was a firm opened by John Wells in the 1960s a range of high quality biological preparations was offered especially for the educational market.
The next 5 Sections I photographed 6 years ago and have no idea what they depict sorry.
That's it for this part and I have put together another three groups of 5 slide sections explaining what is shown.

Re: Sections
That is a lovely tradition, what better way of showing respect and support to the passed member and the family.exmarine wrote:Rod if there was a way of you and others going through my exhibition box then I would gladly give you the box. For whatever reason, the interest in microscopy here in the States does not seem to have the level of interest it enjoys in England. I am not aware of any local clubs near me.
May your mates have a long wait to get at your slides ;^). Happy New Year.
