Stains and dyes??

#1 Post by Chadack » Thu Aug 15, 2019 3:40 pm

You guys must get this slot but I'm going to ask anyway...

When it comes to making permanent slides what stain is good for plant material and what stain is good for animal? Just for basic observation and good preservation as well?
I'm using a celestron microscope with 4, 10, 40, 100 times magnification. Eye pieces are 10 and 20.

In any case stain(s) and mountant will have to fit together. The mountant shouldn't draw out the stain and the ph value of the mountant has to fit to the stain so it doesn't loose its colours over time.

For plant sections FCA Etzold or W3A Wacker stain are proven and work well with Euparal mountant.
If you already have mountants and stains you might look for a compatible combination of them. Otherwise I would suggest to buy what is really good for on application and start with this.
