My Arachnoidiscus

This is my Arachnoidiscus from a sample sent to me from Edmonds, WA. Sample was cleaned and mounted in Zrax about two years ago.
The Arachnoidiscus is one species of this type slide:

Lovely oblique/brightfield images. I know DIC is often the desired method for these subjects, but I still much prefer this type of shot. Thanks for sharing.

I agree, I like this kind of method too. Perhaps it is because I don't have DIC at present, though I used to, but it does seem to work nicely with diatoms.

Misread your opening sentence. Thought at first that the slide was by Edmonds.
Only now did I realize that it was yours! Most impressive work, as can be judged by your image of Arachnoidiscus.
Consensus seems to be that your image is Oblique, it does however look like Brightfield to me. Perhaps you can let us know.

Nicely imaged grouping photomicro, what objective did you use?
Perhaps it is because I don't have DIC at present, though I used to ...
What is the story there? Upgrading to an infinity system?

Yes, both the 25X and 100X are oblique.

Used a x20 objective. This is VAC, or variable amplitude contrast, which is easily made for any stand.
In terms of a story...yes there is. I had too many stands, though my main one(s) were Zeiss West, I was frustrated over time with de-lamination. So, I got rid of all my stands except one make (but with one other for sentimental reasons) which meant losing all the Zeiss, and DIC capability. In truth, being the initial Zeiss common slider system, it was never as good as the sort of thing we see now.
The make I am sticking with is Nikon, though by chance rather than planning, I have 160 and infinity !
