Tale of Another DIC...Black DIC, White DIC

#1 Post by Charles » Sat May 30, 2015 3:55 pm

I salvaged a Zeiss Black WL body on Ebay a couple of days ago and after cleaning it up and adding a trinocular head with 10X18mm eyepieces, mechanical stage, DIC condenser with rotating polarizer, intermediate piece with anylyzer/DIC slide and five plan objectives, came up with a very nice WL DIC microscope.

That was a worthy act and a job well done. Beautiful microscope.

Charles, I know where to send my microscope if it ever needs repairs :) You are quite a craftsman.

Jim, There really wasn't anything to repair. The beauty of the Zeiss WL is that parts are so easily interchangeable with the quick change capabilities built in. In can not only change heads and condensers, it can change out objective turrets, whole stage mounts, condenser mounts and intermediate pieces like analyzers, optivars and epi lighting can be added. You can easily turn a brightfield to, phase, pol, DIC or epi fluoro within minutes. It can interchange viewing bodies, intermediate pieces, whole stage and condenser mounts with the Zeiss Universal and Photomicroscopes. It can also be switched from 6V to 12V lighting by changing the lamp housing tube.

Here are some of the parts:
