Busch Rathenow info please

#1 Post by Johann » Mon Oct 17, 2016 6:40 pm

Hope someone can point me in the right direction to get more information on this Busch microscope I bought.
I've searched the internet but just cannot find the same model.

Mostly I would like to know what year it was manufactured.

Thanks :)

Sorry I can't help but many there are real experts in this fine forum and you're sure to get some helpful answers. I must however say what a beautiful instrument this is, obviously very finely built and a treasure I think.

A fine 'scope, good luck with your research into it.

Thanks John, Seb - everything is still working 100% :) - I bought it with the idea to re-sell - but now I'm not so sure.... think this may be the start of my "collection" :D :D

Sell! Nooooo..... :o

I'd certainly keep this one, think of it as the 'founder-member' of your collection-to-be!

I couldn't bring myself to sell this majestic Queen of 'scopes...

You know it makes sense to keep, you'd spend every day regretting it's sale - it's a thing of rare beauty my friend! 8-)

That is a beautiful , well cared for instrument. The maker was Emil Busch in Rathenow. My guess on the date of mfg. would be sometime in the mid to late 20's, based on some of the features and when I compare it to other Busch scopes I have seen, made earlier.
Zeiss became a majority shareholder in the company in 1928 and began supplying lenses. The objectives in your microscope bear a strong resemblance to Leitz , and other Wetzlar made objectives I have seen from that era but not Zeiss.

The manufacturing reflected the time and it surprises people to learn that by the first w.w. an enormous understanding of the bacterial world had already been accomplished, so the microscopes were not only precisely made but precisely useful too.
