"einige meiner Lieblingsdinge"????
I don't have any real use for doing polarizing microscopy, but I love hoarding microscopes since I'm a machinist and optical instrument fine mechanic -
Shown are two of my favorite children - the Orthoplan POL, I'm getting ready to regrease and overhaul the head to avoid breaking a kooky focusing cable linkage that wasn't exactly the most brilliant feat of engineering. The Ortholux I is getting ready to be fitted with Wollaston transmitted AND Wollaston incident POL - the current incident phase contrast is going to be rigged on an Ortho I currently equipped only with a Zernike style transmitted phase contrast.
My Ortholux POL is the pride of my collection! Interference contrast is the only thing that would thrill me more - 'cause I'd actually use it!

There's no way not to love something with so many knobs, dials and twiddly bits. It is a thing of beauty, especially to an engineer! Like you, I'd want it just to have it.
