Yet another B&L

I saw this 1948 petrographic Microscope floating by on the Bay of E for $15 and plucked it out.
Of course it was missing some things like an eyepiece, the polarizer and analyzer stick and the mirror.
But it did have the circular stage and strain free objectives. Also there is a filter which rotates into the light path and changes the colors. I think this is a Quartz wave filter.
Had the mirror in the parts box, and while I wait for the missing parts to float by, I put a polarizing filter in the assembly that holds the B&L polarizer, and added the eyepiece I put a small polarizer disk into for an earlier experiment with putting a polarizing filter on the Illuminator and reflecting it off the mirror.
As with that setup, I rotate the eyepiece to cross the polarizers.

A nice addition to the collection for next to nothing, and it works!

The finish on that pol stage is gorgeous - looks virtually unused!

As always, a wipe down with a damp rag does wonders.
I’m a bit surprised, I didn’t think they sold the 16033-443 stand before 1950.
S/N 5546WD should be 1948-W Microscope-D.
Always something else new to learn.

B & L really went to town with that stand, putting a low fine focus in an affordable aluminum horseshoe design....pretty much caught Spencer with their pants around their ankles. They had to quickly cough up the series 4 to get back in th game and so it went back and forth until spiraling costs invented Leica.

I love those stands.
