Glass stage plate replacement: builder needed
Glass stage plate replacement: builder needed
I need a round plate to fit onto the stage of a stereoscope. 4 3/4" dia. x 1/4" thick.
Material should be dense so I can drill and tap it for accessories.
Bakelite or plastic? If I just had a 5" square I could finish it.
3/16" thick aluminum would be ok. Anyone have any scraps?

If the bits you intend to screw into this replacement plate are not high torque/high weight items...why not go to your local 'big box store'..purchase a clear, or an opaque flat kitchen food tray...DIY rig? charlie guevara

Do you think they are thick enough?

Take a template of proper thickness to the store...shop around.
What are the attachments you wish to place on your replacement stage plate? I'm curious now! charlie guevara

I may have something that would work. Send me exact dimensions. I could also make you one.

The box stores carry rod stock, but I've never seen flat stock. We have a huge salvage outfit in Seattle I
just emailed about digging through the bins like they let us hams do in the 60's.
I am going to mount various insect holders. I found a hypodermic needle that will fit snugly over
the cylinder of a micrometer head. I have a gem holder. To top it off I have an Olympus X-Y
stage without the slide gripping stuff. I was going to fasten the stage directly to the scope, but then
I loose the rotation, and I can't fasten anything to the glass plate. Copish?

If all else fails have a look in the hardware stores, over here in the UK they sell chopping boards for the kitchen made of HDPE. I have used these over the years for various projects, they are easy to work and will take a thread but you have to be careful not to over tighten as its plastic.
