Eyepiece Adapter For DSLR

#1 Post by Rodney » Wed Jul 27, 2016 3:22 pm

This over the microscope eyepiece adapter will be used with my canon dslr. At home depot I first looked at pvc fittings and I could not find anything that would work real good since I don`t have a lathe, but in the electrical connectors and fittings I found these parts.
At this time everything looks good and it will work, I will need to test it out more for sure.
The parts are around 10 bucks, what is needed is a little time and some good straight cuts and a little sanding.
Most of the building process can be seen from these photo`s with the purchased parts first.

Less time at the eyepiece and more time away! Tsk Tsk :)

How will you finally attach it to the Canon and I hope you are keeping the back lens of the adapter covered when not taking photos.

Gentle but slightly snug fit Jim, mounted on this bogen tripod, the heavy weight door stop microscopes hold this adapter up rather well, for 10 bucks it is very sturdy.
My last measurement added a simple sleeve for 4 parts in all. I forgot to take the photo of it before installation.

Two or three photos of the finished product. This cheap adapter seems to be very sturdy. I chose one of my door stop microscopes to mount it on because of the very heavy base of these old scopes.

Very interesting. The proof of the pudding will be in the imaging. Be sure to post images taken with it.

No doubt to take images. I have the camera back on the tri- pod now, I find it a lot easier to point the camera at something while I try to learn some of the technical stuff and work the controls, since this is my first dslr.
With the rest of the equipment I have I find it unlikely that any of my photos will be as good as some of the ones we see lately. But some of them could be ok. What I find out and about and take usable photos will be mostly what I do, and if I can obtain a surprise photo that will be good also.

What lens is in your home made adapter? Why use the camera lens when you have the lens in the adapter? So, viewing through both lenses gives you a suitable image?

Edit: Enlarging one of your pictures, I see the lens is a WF eyepiece, so you are using it as an afocal setup?

Correct, if I decided to use another eyepiece I just pull that one out and insert another one, as such eyepiece adapter.
Works fine.

Just a note,,I mostly use B&L wide field eyepieces 95 percent of the time. The diameter across the top of these eyepieces are not the same as a few other oculars I have so I made this adapter to fit those eyepieces I mostly use. In this case all of the weight load is across the top of the eyepiece.
