Illuminator stands

#1 Post by Radazz » Thu Aug 18, 2016 4:57 pm

By repurposing parts from one of those soldering 'third hands', I was able to make a couple of secure and versital led point source stands.

The gooseneck is tall enough to make a great top light, and the short mount will get virtually anywhere on the deck.

Lamp brackets are made from two conduit brackets held in the alligator clip mounts.

Hi,

You did a fantastic job of "repurposing" these lights.. Can I ask where you found these led point source lights?.. I have never seen any that looked like this..

Thanks!

I got them on eBay. The one on the little stand is burned out, another one coming. From China. Slowly.
They come with a nice transformer, one of which I appropriated for my m20 led illuminator. I put another transformer and dimmer on the point source and ate it in a couple of weeks. Good thing Cree emitters are so cheap. I intend to try replacing the emitter in this lamp. LED's are more fragile than you might think. Never plug one directly into a transformer without a resistor. Happily, a dimmer works great, but don't plug power in with the dimmer turned up full. They don't tolerate these mistakes.

Search eBay for coaxial microscope illuminator. Saw several, then none for a while, then something similar, (which I ordered). Not sure if any are currently out there.

Addendum, I just searched coaxial microscope light and turned up 4 of them.

Far more sensible and versital arrangement.
This one's a keeper.
