More B&L tweaks

#1 Post by Radazz » Tue Sep 20, 2016 9:02 pm

Here's a tiny LED illuminator for the B&L sterio stands.
Cree illuminator on a rubber stopper that fits the holes for the old illuminator.

Also, I decided why attach the mechanical stage, reducing the utility of the scope, when I can put rubber feet on it and stand it on the stage?

Very good ideas. I have an LED set-up that might work very well in your application.

Cree illuminator on a rubber stopper...
How are you dissipating the heat?

How would you compare this light to a gooseneck lamp? There are times when
the contrast from the side is very dramatic, but the gooseneck lamp is sometimes
not handy.

I pick whatever is appropriate. For slide making or soldering I like a ring light, but some subjects look better lit from below. Then a light from the side reveals more surface structure.

Incidentally, the little light fits in the top hole as well.

These emitters are mounted on a heat sink back, And are not really confined in this application.
I find them more susceptible to shock than heat, although I did cook one by lingering too long with the soldering iron.

If it drops off, then back to the drawing board.

And it doesn't get hot.

Certainly not like any kind of incandescent lamp I've ever used.

Just for closure, the emitter on the cork idea needs some work.
I'm now a fan of heat sunk, lensed cans for converting to LED.
