Eyepiece Covers

All of my scopes are covered when not in use, but even with that precaution, I found that my eyepieces often seemed to gather dust.

I went looking to see if I could find an inexpensive solution to keeping my eyepieces cleaner under the cover.

I turned these up on Ebay - they are small bottles intended for coin collectors

I bought the Silver Dollar size, and it works great for even the larger eyepiece tubes of the American Optical head. The seller has various other sizes, some may work better for your scope.

I bought 10 for $7.95 shipped. Good to go.

Great idea! I take lots of meds (yeah, getting old), so have boxes of empty pill bottles which just happen to work for this too.

Thanks for your dust cover tip,Rod. I use 3 oz plastic cups...they work for occular dust covers, and they hold water for use in microscopy(feeding water to a wetmount slide, washing pipetts between sample uptakes, etc.).

Right along with dust covers..I have a camera air-bulb..to gentle airblast occulars (and their dust cover cups) before and after observations. It is rather compulsive to manage dust at the bench! charlie guevara

You know, I have one of those puffer bulbs packed away somewhere, your post inspires me to dig it out and find a handy spot on the bench for it.

Do you guys just cover the eye pieces only to keep the dust off? Do you not cover the whole microscope? I cover all my microscopes fully from head to toe, even if I am just popping out the room for a minute I always leave them covered.

Sorry Rod and others I have just reread the thread and noticed you do fully cover your microscopes. What a wally OK you can say so. From the plonker of the month.
