Another one from Frankenstein’s lab

#1 Post by Radazz » Fri Oct 19, 2018 7:22 pm

I picked up this Petrographic microscope a few weeks ago.
Only $15 USD. But missing much. No eyepiece, no polarizor or analyzer, and no mirror.
I had a mirror in the parts box for this 16033 stand, and I decided not to wait or the original parts to drift by and make it work.

I adapted a 37mm video camera polarizor to attach to the original mount and be removable if I ever see the real one on the bay. I had to reverse the polarizer in the mount in order to get good extinction.

I found an ocular with cross hairs which I keyed to hold the cross straight and added a polarizor disk to it to be the analyzer.

I found this set of Lomo waveplates that miked to the same size as the slot, but they needed some shaping to fit right and need to be lined up by eye because the stop is not in the right position. But they work now and I can begin learning to use this type of equipment.
