Three-pointed glassy formations

Has anyone seen these three-pointed star shaped formations? They appear to be all over my water samples, both salt and fresh water. I thought they were a form of diatom, b

ut they don't appear to be typical of diatoms.

Those appear to be what is called spicules. Probably sponge spicules.
