What tree is this leave from?

#1 Post by MicrobeGazer45 » Mon Jun 01, 2020 7:24 pm

I am going to make slides with different leaves, and I do not know what tree this one comes from. It looks like a birch leave. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Location will help, but my guess would be a Linden. Any flowers, pods, seeds, fruit?
Images of the bark and/or whole tree may also help.

That is however, a tad larger than the typical specimens examined here. :P

Could be silver birch, could be lime. More info needed.

The tree is quite big, maybe up to eight meters, here's a same type of tree from Google Earth.

Linden looks pretty similar, but I think this tree is slightly bigger and the tree top is more irregular. It's in southern Spain.

Oh, and I didn't see any type of fruit, flower or seed.

The common Tilia across Europe is Tilia Cordata " little leaf Linden". There is a tilia grandifolia " big leaf Linden"that also grows in Spain but it's typical range is more northerly. It can grow to 40 metres and has a more upright growing habit than the more common Tilia Cordata.
Range maps are not always accurate or sometimes trees are planted outside their natural range and can become naturalized. How big are those leaves?

We have thousands of Black Locust ( Robinia Pseudoaccacia) here, 300 miles north of it's native range. So many that one would think they were native, while the native locust , Honey Locust is quite rare.
