Round structures from toilet grime
Round structures from toilet grime
Took some nasty grime congregated on the lip of the toilet to see what would be growing there, and found this, any idea what it could be?

You are very dedicated to photograph this stuff. It looks like bacteria to me. What objective did you use?

To me it looks like salt or other cristals or something like that. Or did it move under the microscope?
Re: Round structures from toilet grime
Looks like limescale to me. I've had similar samples from water around plumbing.

Maybe its a little too big to be bacteria. It's just the way the figures line up like living cells sometimes do tha made me think it was more than mineral deposits.
Re: Round structures from toilet grime
Pollen could be another possibility (especially if you keep a bathroom window open?) It's most likely not bacteria as it is quite big for bacteria. Even under 40x Streptococci would be very small.

It appears to be a fungus/mold. At 400x not bacteria at that size in image. Search for images of Aureobasidium pullulans. Many of them look very similar to yours.
Hope that helps!

They are not bacteria (at x40 you would see them as dots) and the chaining suggests living matter. It must be a microfungus, and I don't know if it may be the yeast Candida albicans (that found in female pouches!)
