Helminth paristalsis

#1 Post by Plasmid » Sat Nov 14, 2020 2:49 am

I need some help with this Helminth, I have no clue on which genus or species it belongs to, on the video you can see what appears to be some type of digestion and peristalsis like activity.

Thank you Bruce, this one had me scratching my head, I'm still looking in the literature to find the purpose for the peristalsis like movement.

You often see that peristaltic action when Stenostomum is swallowing or regurgitating food. Both are done through the pharynx and protruding mouth, since these critters are a gastroenterological cul-de-sac. :D Back when I was just getting interested in microscopy I recorded a video showing one of these guys regurgitating his breakfast. There is some peristaltic activity around 1:30 as the little fellow is getting ready to throw up: https//www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUq_H9qHj0A
