Calling on flatworm conoisseurs

#1 Post by Plasmid » Mon Feb 08, 2021 2:46 am

I remember seeing this worm before someplace, maybe one of Oliver's videos, but can find a positive ID on it. Posted the video on a FB forum (Dalyellidae sp) but no dice. The closest I've been able to find is Macrostomum hystrix, but is questionable.
Thank you in advance
Adrian.

The barrel-shaped pharynx and tapering tail confirm this is indeed one of the Dalyelliidae, whereas for instance Macrostomum would have a simple slit-shaped mouth and a broader tail. Unfortunately the different genera are not easy to separate; keys mostly go by details of the genital structures which are not particularly visible. So I think you shouldn't be disappointed simply calling it a dalyelliid.
