What is wrong with this paramecium

#1 Post by dtrinh » Sun Jan 01, 2023 11:30 pm

Hi everyone,
I suppose this one is a paramecium (elogated microbe), which I have a lot in my still water bottle.
But this one seems to be defective, probably because they have been in the same bottle for almost 2 months now, so defects happen.
And the donut-shaped on the left is a kind of Arcella?
Thanks!

dtrinh,

Who said defects happen?
Did it move at all ?
Probably a dead carcass.
Looks like the one part slipped off when it laid there in decay.
All that My opinions is all.

Hi Dennis,
Because the way paramecia produce (the big nucleus divides without replication), genetic errors may occur quite quickly. That was my understanding.
That one above was able to move quite well, so not a carcass.
I observed another paramecium with strange body, moving quickly as well.
