Off Of A Tree

From tree limbs, any idea what this is called or what caused it? Camera photo with a little zoom.

Scar tissue of the tree caused by fungus? Just a random guess.

I bet if you sliced a cross section of those you would find a burl grain.
Highly desired by many woodworkers for its beauty. Especially in larger pieces which can be made into something that displays the burl pattern.
