Something weird pus sample. Any ideas?

#1 Post by yestosci » Thu Jul 21, 2016 6:24 am

I'm looking at a pus sample taken from a facial skin eruption, and there are dozens of these longish (organisms?) sticking into or coming out of the cells. Does anyone know what this is? Some kind of microscope artifact, maybe? They look like little black fibers at 10x, but look much more biological at 40x and 100x (more translucent and what look like they could be flagella). Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Welcome to the forum!

I am guessing those are fibrin clots or paper tissue.

I wonder why the colors are so intense in your photos -
did you stain the sample with a dye or close down condenser iris a lot?

I do not know what this is, but it doesn't appear to be flagella. I also doubt that it is fibrin, because I don't expect to see isolated strands of fibrin, but rather mats and sheets. Any more pics? 600X?
