Re: Two small buds of Fugi
What were these attached to? Fungi, are actually fruiting buds, which are attached to a main plant. The main plant is usually growing on some highly nutritive substrate, such as dead wood, dung, or other organic matter. When you collected them, what was the material they were growing on? Were they side by side, or somewhat distant from each other?
If they are fungi, they will have some structure, which they make and release spores from. These kind of look, puffballish or bird's nest fungi-like, to me. The spores would be internal in such fungi. I collect mushrooms from time to time but have never seen ones quite like that, although I am in a climate with a much colder winter, so some of the fungi common in Europe cannot survive here.

Nice pics, but I'm not any kind of mycologist.
Re: Two small buds of Fugi
Hello Exmarine, it looks like a species of the genus Coprinus or Ink Cap, they wilt quickly and have black spores.

Re: Two small buds of Fugi
Was there a stalk on them?
Re: Two small buds of Fugi
They were growing about 5 feet apart from each other just on a grass field, there was no other fungi near the small plants. Thank you Rylander for the I. D. and apochronaut yes they were growing on a white stalk which as soon as I picked them they started to shrivel up. I still have them in a petri dish so will have a look at them later and come back to you both.
Thanks Guys!!

Re: Two small buds of Fugi
I have just remembered that they were very, very thin not dome shaped at all. They reminded me of a Chines cheap umbrella with the vein running from a centre point straight out almost flat. If that's any help.
Yes Apochronaut they were growing on a white stalk.

Re: Two small buds of Fugi
Looking through my small "Field Guide to Mushrooms and Toadstools" I have come across the actual fungi its Coprinus xanthotrix.
So Rylander you certainly know your fungi congrats my friend. I have taken a couple of shots of how they are decaying.
